I know a 21 yr-old girl now, here in HK, who has been in the game for 2 mths. She is scraping money together to go home and start her own business. She needs 500K HK and is 20% there. She saves every penny she makes - no Gucci bags, no Prada pumps. She had the choice of taking a job in some factory on the Mainland for 1200 RMB/mth (minimum wage is 3+ RMB/hr) working unpaid overtime hours, making just enough to get by and saving nothing; or selling her bod in HK for a year, so that she can take control of her life and future. Her choice was rational, and I can honestly say that if our positions were reversed; if I had had her education, family background, her prospects, etc; I would have done the same thing. Selling her soul and body to some contractor to an American toy company for 3 RMB/hr and getting nowhere, or spreading her legs for a year and becoming independent - what's the smart thing to do. I respect her strength. Everything in life depends on the attitude you approach things with. There are rational economic reasons for what some of these Mainland girls do.

There is another issue here, beyond what I see as an irrational contempt for these girls that mean so much to us: I have twice seen friends interfere in other people's lives with what they thought were good intentions. And in both cases, things turned out very, very badly. I have a horror of giving people advice on how they should lead their lives.

i, too, know of a wg who made a good wife. a filipina, married to a european. and he knew he was a working girl. 3 great kids, wife has kept her looks and hasn't strayed one bit (i know because i know a few idiots who've tried and gotten nowhere with her). and all the kids look exactly like their father, so there.
