Great taste and cheap - they got me through university when i was a poor stuggling student. There is something very Australian about vegemite - we love the looks on your faces when you try it! I remember a few years back I was on a liveaboard on the Great Barrier Reef with a heap of septic tanks (yanks!). Now, usually I spread only a little vegemite on my toast of a morning, but beacuse of the audience my bro and I would cake the stuff on - the yanks would literally stare at us with their jaws on the floor.. Too funny. And, of course, when they said that we were crazy, I had two words for them - 'beef jerky'!

Well sort of, vegemite is quite a serious culinary subject down-under.  IMO, Marmite should never be linked with vegemite ... I love V, but Marmite is one of the worst tasting spreads I have ever tasted. Ultimately it is about personal preference, I have only met a couple of people who like both, it's always one or the other, or neither. I can highly recommend Vegemite and cheese.  Vegemite and peanut butter is something I have never tried. I like both individually but the though of combining them seems just plain weird.
