You've been caught and you're only going to make things worse if you try inventing some unbelievable scenario about viruses. Women hate to be lied to in a way that openly insults their intelligence. That said, JeSun's email idea might work if she's too dumb to check the incoming email date - tho setting your computer's date back a day might take care of that as I don't know if the date on the incoming message derives from your computer or the server that manages your email account.

If the dates on the email can't be altered, you're going to have to come up with something that explains your presence on the site but denies any active involvement with punting yourself.  

Women know were horny bastards. I would just tell her some guy at work mentioned the site and you were curious. But if she notices you were logged in and did a search of your username you are truly fucked.

(btw, she might have been able to recover your password from your browser's options, so be sure to change your password so she can't read your reports from another computer - tho she will be able to read this thread even without logging in!)

This is what Prince would do if he had to clean up a mess like this:

1. All future access of this site done in "inPrivate" on IE, or, even better, Chrome in incognito

2. Remove all breadcrumbs. Delete every post that you have ever made. Hell, you could even ask mods to delete whole threads started by you. She may not have read your posts so far, but I bet good money she'll do her research soon.

3. Start a new account. Maybe "Suddenlyinblack" :-)

btw, when you delete the originating post in any thread, the whole thread vanishes.

you can selectively delete history by doing it manually, just leave all the boring stuff there.

yes I'm certain she will be back, maybe even register to spy on what's happening.

This really is nightmare scenario. If she is even a little savvy she would have gone into your profile and seen your log on / posting stats, maybe read your PMs .... God my stomach is churning.

I can only think of one scenario that would be worse ... imagine your SO having a day to play in your account if you were a mod!!!!!  shudder, shudder.

I've set my browser settings to delete history / cookies on signing out but this all for naught if I left my browser on and was signed in.  VIGILANCE

Begging your pardon Mr Froddo, deleting the originating post in a closed thread also deletes the entire thread - I know, because I just did it.

all secure sites, such as banking sites, and sites like Hotmail, log you off after a certain amount of time.  This site should certainly do that.  In this instance, the damage would have been only that the SO would have been able to see the page that was left open, and nothing more.  This site should definitely implement this feature - do not save any cookies for logins - always make the user log in again.  I realize that it's a pain to always put in your password and one of your teacher's name, but I don't mind.

This saved my ass about 10 years ago.  Someone had sent me a review of a provider at a massage parlor on one of my Hotmail accounts.  I left it open and the SO saw it.  It so happens that she is a bigwig in law enforcement/judicial system that happened to be working on a case against this very same massage parlor, so she was quite familiar with the place.  I lied and said that this guy must have sent it to the wrong address and I was reading the email.  Damn lucky she couldn't see the other emails, since Hotmail does auto logoff after a while.  I deleted all of the other emails on providers, and had the same guy send a whole bunch of other stuff, addressing someone else's name, so that it looked like he was sending stuff to the wrong email address.  Worked out well, though throughout the years, I'm sure the SO has her suspicions.  This is where I got my idea on using email flooding/accidental clicking.

If you don't have the InPrivate Browsing feature that IE 8 has, you should at least change your history settings so that you keep 0 days of history.  And never use your regular cell phone to call James Bond, get to 7-11 and get yourself a mongering SIM card.

Men Suddenly In Black is one of my favorite movies of all time.  The part at the end where Eric Tsang wonders who texted him with the warning that their wives were about to come cut their balls off since they found their mongering hotel room is an absolute classic. (Don't want to give away the ending)... Every person on this thread should watch this movie.

What I said Mr Marsupial is that a member should not be able to delete a thread they have started but has been closed by the mods. Have you stumbled upon some cunning method to delete your closed posts? Or is the system broken?  Please advise so we can fix, if needed.  Yours Faithfully, Mr. Baggins.

Another guy in the news, Tiger, seems to have started a very expensive damage control exercise, so that his wife doesn't leave him andhis previous and current mistresses don't spout any more info to the media. SFMonger probably has to do a lot to get back into his wife's good books. Tiger's fans from Church of Tigermay have disbanded, but as a fellow forum member, lets hope everything turns out ok for you SFMonger.

This episode serves as a reminder to always be careful:

1. 1 - Its best to use Firefox version 3.5, with Private Browsing to cover tracks, plus Firefox has a feature to auto-delete all history and cookieson closing the browser.
   
2. 2 - Avoid browsing at home. Get a new laptop to use in the office. Avoid using the office network. Get a mobile broadband device for on-the-road surfing. If you are really going to browse at home, do so using a separate user profile on the home computer. Save pictures, video in a portable harddisk and keep in the office drawer only.
   
3. 3 - Use a file shredder program like Eraser to get rid of unwanted data.
   
4. 4 - Get a separate phone and SIM card for calling the papasans, and keep it in the office. Its too dangerous at home.
   
5. 5 - Don't leave condoms lying around in at home.

Hmmm...If I'd known that deleting posts from closed threads was thought impossible by our Overlords, I would have kept the secret to myself.

Having read your caveat about closed threads, and being by nature one who never accepts anything at face value, I betook myself deep into closed-thread country in search of a Marsupial thread that wasn't a gem of writing, wit and wisdom - i.e., something that could be deleted without subtracting from mankind's literally heritage. It wasn't easy, but on Chit-Chat page #46, I came across an inconsequential little piece entitled "What's a guy got to do to get laid in this town - Part 2". As I say, the thread was closed. I opened said thread, clicked the 'Edit' option on my originating post, deleted it, and poof.... the entire thread vanished into the ether. (Yet another example of Marsupial sacrificing Karma for the good of the community.)

When opening closed threads, the 'Report' and 'Rating' options are still available in the lower right corner of each post; along with 'Edit' in one's own posts. It would be nice if this is something only allowed Emperors, but I don't think so.

I would suggest that you leave this as it is, for precisely such cases as the poor, soon to be divorced and penniless - or, at the very least, pussy whipped for the rest of his life - SFMonger.

I know that in SFM's case this was accidental, but many guys do it voluntarily (not to their wives of course), and google is certainly expert at putting all your posting history in one place.  If a WG doesn't know your handle then she can't read your reviews and you're free to post what you really think.

I get the impression that this is less of a problem here, but back on Redbook in the States it's led to a massive compromise of the reviews.

Interesting thread. I once walked out of a massage parlor located in Chinatown (NYC) and walked right into my wife. No BS. I had to act fast and told her the massage was amazing and she should get one. She didn't want to spend the money. Got lucky.

My gf is in our flat all day as she teaches piano from home. Even though she seems to trust me, I know that she checks my Internet, MSN, and document histories.

I don't blame her. When I made the transition from being single to being in a relationship, there were more than a few breadcrumbs in my hard disk. Also, a girl that moves to another country to be with her bf needs to check on her investment.

Luckily for me, she doesn't seem to know how to delete the history of her checking my history.
