You might want to check out Notebookreviews.com for reviews on portable computing, such as notebooks and they might have netbooks, as well...

whatever you do do not go linux, almost all the llinux varoations are shit, the wifi on mine came broken out the box! , it didn't even accept passwords for WIFI or passwords under a certain length, unless you are say willing to upgrade it to unbuntu which itself is a pain in that ass.

The Samsung D models are pretty good the D20 is almost a full sized notebook,

Ive got an Asus 1000EH - battery power is very good for netbook (5.5-6 hrs),
cost 3.6k and 10". Windows used and no problems whatsoever with it so far.
80 GB i believe also but have to double-check that.

I've got to disagree with you on this one. Most of the netbooks run on pretty sub standard hardware compared to the notebooks that are available today. All of the linux versions I have seen dramatically out perform windows on these low powered units. There may be a bit of a learning curve if you are unfamiliar with linux, but the performance increase over windows is well worth the investment in learning the operating system. Almost all netbooks have very active forums dedicated to helping users get them up and running.

I have been using an Acer Aspire One for traveling the past couple of years and couldn't be happier with this netbook. Once I got a few of the kinks worked out, it has been rock solid and a total pleasure to use.

Asus EEE series netbooks are worth getting but 7" might be too small. 10" ones are the one to get.

Yes, true - ive a 10" also. Watch out for the newer 1000 models as their battery life is poor - maybe 2.5hrs at most

I'd recommend a Sony or Toshiba, a bit more pricey though

Prices of notebooks have really come down. Sony's newest 16.4" model (VGN-FW590FFD) is only HK$ 8200 (US$ 1069). and no need to compromise on power. A couple of years ago, a Sony model with comparable specs cost HK$ 24000

Intel® Core™ 2 Duo P8700 (2.53GHz), 16.4" LCD, 4GB RAM, 500GB (7200rpm) HDD, DVD burning, ATI Graphics (1GB VRAM), HDMI out, Bluetooth
