mid town escalator

I read somewhere in Hong Kong there is a mid town covered escalator service that connections a business district with another district.  According to the article, the escalator only goes one day during one time of the day, and another way another time of the day.  Does anybody here actually use this escalator?  What do you do if you want something that is inbetween the escalator service points?

The escalator that you are referring to connects the business district with a residential area know as the "mid-levels". In the morning the escalator runs downhill to ferry people to bus and mtr connections, and later in the day it changes direction to allow people to return to their residences. All along the escalator are exit points to access street level shops and restaurants. It is not one long continuous escalator, but many series of escalators connected by walkways. Hope this clears up your confusion.

Ive been on it before. So to the best of my knowledge (going back a few years though ) these escalators are split into small sections! And there are roads running perpendicular to it so they have to split it.

Edit: was investigated with bbc on the 10/01/2010  http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/asia-pacific/8314111.stm

quote from bbc 'The Central-Mid-levels system consists of twenty escalators and three moving walkways - and it runs in one direction in the morning, and another in the afternoon.'

Yes, it is relatively flat as escalators go.  They seem to have smoothed out the grade since it is elevated they make up the gradient at the junctions with the number of steps in the stairs to street level.

Here is a link to an interesting video...cool but for informational/academic reference you can see some of the escalators.
