Ah no, in that thread of yours, the only position I took on LL was to reject 'pert's statement the she "is the ugliest Asian woman alive" - I never said she was hot.

If I was coming into Asia from outside, I would invest the USD1mil in HK property to get the Permanent ID card after 7 years.  I can live off the interest or find a job to pass the time as long as I live like a local and eat like a local.  Remember the average monthly wage here in HK is only HKD9,000 (USD1,155.00).

Then once I got the card, I would sell the property and go live next door in the nicer areas of Shenzhen, Zhongshan, or Zhuhai where living expenses are really cheap.  If I get sick or need major surgery, I can always go back to HK to use the excellent, reliable govt medical care at the local resident's low prices.

I would pick New Territories in HK.  The MTR train isolves the issue of living farther away, at least for me.

forget the ID card, why not just save that money on the HK apartment and just go live across the border in SZ, DG, ZS or such. an apartment in HK costs way too much and it will eat into taht 1M like crazy.

it is true life is for living but you live up to a certain age and you pretty much stop doing the wild and crazy things that you do when you are young. That one million is prob gonna last me for the rest of my life but up to age 60 or so, I wont be going to see WG's every day or even every month. It gets tiring for an old guy. Once you get to that age, you'll only want to stay home and watch TV and such, ask your mom or dad.

China has a horrible medical system that is only in it for the money, more than the USA system.  And the service is not so up to par plus if you suffer under any of their mistakes, you will have no legal recourse.  There are alot of HK residents who live in SZ, Zhongshan, Zhuhai now because the lifestyle and living expenses are very affordable.  But when it comes to medical, they all come back to HK for treatment because it is highquality, affordable, and reliable.  The North District Hospital near Sheung Shui treats alot of HK residents who currently live in China because it is the closest major govt hospital to the border.

So participating in the HK govt investment scheme for PR is a good investment.  You can always sell the unit after you get your PR and move somewhere else.

I read once how one HK guy after getting in a fight in China and breaking a hand or leg, refused to go to a SZ hospital instead waited until the border gates opened so he could go to the North District Hospital.  (this was before the 24 hr border crossings opened).

I beg to differ.  From my experience, the China medical system is superior to that in the US.  Not sure about HK.  I went for a physical last year in SZ, and let me tell you, it was more than just the doctor poking me for a few minutes and then doing a blood and treadmill test.  This was a thorough test that lasted 3 hours, and it lasted 3 hours because there were so many tests.  And the average waiting time between tests was less than 1 minute.

i knew it wasn't that bad and we have proof. So what kind of tests were done and were they cheap or expensive? Were there CAT scans, CCT scans etc. I would be really interested in the price though and did you pay the cost upfront before they started or can it be paid in installments like the US

In Australia you can get about 7% for term deposits for most banks, so I would be set. (The AUD is way overpriced at present so I'd take a hit in the beginning)

no idea on the price, since my bro-in-law is one of the bigwigs in the hospital, so the exam was gratis. And it is one of the leading hospitals in SZ.  The interesting thing to me is that it is a 'Chinese Medicine' hospital, meaning many patients use herbs as medicine - yet the examinations are done using extremely state-of-the-art equipment.  However, I had a teeth cleaning and X-Ray done at the same hospital and the cost was $180RMB, around $26US.  Compare that with the US, where the average cost at a decent place is probably around $150US.

exam included a CAT scan and even a couple of ultrasound scans (still not sure what they were looking for, don't think I was pregnant or anything like that).
