I come across people from the mainland China everyday over here in britain and i found they are a very very patriotic bunch of people who will defend any bad mouthing of china whether right or wrong.

I've always liked the 18th century English quotation .... "Patriotism is the last refuge of a scoundrel" attributed to
Samuel Johnson. It doesn't refer to true patriotism, i.e. love of country, but false or excessive patriotism, which
can result in xenophobia. If you think your country is wrong about something you should stand up and say so, not
defend it regardless. Educated people in most developed countries have learned this, but most Chinese haven't.

Something of this can be explained by personality. Generally, it is very difficult for the Chinese to deal with criticism of any kind in a cool rational manner. Everything quickly becomes personal, involves face, and becomes very emotional.  

Most Westerners don't know shit about China, and Chinese living abroad have to deal with all sorts of stupid stereotypes and gross inaccuracies. A few mths of that can cause even the most reasonable person to raise the barricades.

The Chinese are a very proud people and for 200 years the West and Japan have shat on China. So even if, in private, all Mainland Chinese will gripe about things back home, they don't want to hear it from foreigners.

And almost everything said about China and the Chinese in the western press is negative and one-sided, and that also pisses the Chinese off.

So when the Chinese react to criticism about China, they are not defending the CCP, but speaking up for the Chinese people.

I agree wholeheartedly with Marsupials thoughts on this topic.  From an expernal observer it is obvious that China is controlling the matter and the censorship is very high.  I see this asa two very distinct issues.  Irrespective of our thoughts regarding China's overlay on Tibet the censorship being imposed by China does not enable its citizens to form an educated opinion about the matter.  This lack of free speach and strict censorship fuels an underbelly of resistence.  History is littered with brainwashed countries, and in all examples eventually the government is felled - either from external or internal forces.  I would suspect that there is no power externally that would have the balls to take on China, so it is incumbent on Chinas citizens to rise up agains the oppression.  Good luck with that one!

By the way, she is pretty hot looking!

Also, for a Chinese to criticise China is considered betrayal, treason; a westerner will be given some slack because they are considered ignorant of Chinese culture and history, but a Chinese....not.....

But we from the EAST, read and see from the news concerning all the bad or good things happening around the world........
However from the West, the only thing you read and hear about on the media is only negative/bad news ....... this is a bad representation on China and the rest of the East.........

I don't know what that means. If China ever becomes the aggressor, there are plenty of countries with the 'balls to take on China'.

The Chinese criticize their own government all the time. Tibet, tho, is something about which all Chinese agree. And the reason for that has nothing to do with an objective examination of the historical issues. It's a purely emotional response to recent history. The Chinese see this as yet another example of the West trying to deny China control of it's own territory.

What the f*ck is wrong with people who keep criticizing china handling about tibet or China oppression?

If China give in to Tibet or worse case to become independent country, then Taiwan wants to be Independent also what next? Each province in China will want to be independent as well.... Finally China will be disintegrated and dissapear from the world map.

So the Tibetan people, who are not and have never been Chinese, are to be denied the right of self-rule in order to prevent Shanghai from deciding to split away from the rest of China? Have I understood you correctly?

Mars, I don't intend to enter this debate but you know very well - along with anyone else with
a little intelligence - that in any large or small country these types of problem exists, inequality for
the time being will always be part of our lives.

Yes, deny Tibet to split away. Just because they are not and never been chinese doesnt mean they can just pack the bag and change the flag. If this is not the case then Aboriginies should split away from Australia, Red Indians should rule America and Hokkaido (Ainu people) should split from Japan.... it's just endless.

OR.... If Tibet is to become independent, there're just so many things we have to update or add or change or throw away, first of all: my globe, timezone, dictionary, adding tibet into country list of Computer System, Map, Geography book etc...

I'm not going to argue the issue of Tibetan independence because I really don't know enough about it to be able to discuss the problem intelligently.

By the way, America's Indians - those few who survived 200+ years of genocide - are now, for all intents and purposes, self-governing.

This is a totally different situation. The Aboriginal people fo Australia are nomadic by nature and are not populated within a geographical location.  This argument does not work.

It seems to me that China is undergoing [in a totally different way] a change in socio political emergence where the central power will be dethroned.  In recent decades with have seen USSR go through perastroka and glasnost and split into regions, the Berlin wall came down and government rule changed.   It is impossible for China to censor the entire country and as more information filiters through the push back against the rule will grow.  It is only a matter of time.

Somehow chinese people should have informed the emperor of China or the emperor should have known that one day Tibetian will be the pain in the ass and he should has ordered all Tibetian to be killed like how Americans killed Indians so China wont have the Tibetian issue biting its tail. After that all China need to do is to apologize for the genocide.

Face it!, when someone criticise your country you act like there's nothing wrong and defend it blindly, but when it's another country you talk about, you start your philosophy with endless criticism about this and that.
