Cell phones in HK and Far East

Since it seems like there is a few members of this forum from Vancouver. I was wondering if our telus phones would work in HK. I currently have a
Blackberry Curve. I know when I went to Ecuador my phone work there. If it does work there, would I get the same service and what are the cost involved?

I believe the BB curve will work internationally or in HK.  But double check that with Telus, as they have some specific world phones that are listed and I dont see the curve in particular.  Telus also, has international add on packages that you can temporarily put on your voice plan to bring the price per minute down.  If not, its usually quite expensive for each minute of call.

I would say it would be better for you to either rent or purchase a cheap GSM phone and just pick up a SIM from 7-11 and then you can make all your local calls that way.

if you run into trouble, Fortress (retail stores throughout HK) currently have a deal on an unlocked Motorola (use it on any GSM provider) for around HK$150. Buy a SIM at a 7/11 and you have a local phone to make local calls for next to nothing. very economical and it also provides you with an alternative tel number to hand out to WG friends while you in HK so you dont get any 3am calls on your normal cell when you return home.
