2. burn more energy

You don't need to eat less - you just need to eat the 'correct' foods. I do my own shopping
at the supermarket and just can't believe the junk I see in other people's trolleys.

I used to head to gym a few years back...
but since i was fed 5 meals a day by my ex's parents whilst i lived with them - i developed a noticable tummy...
working at the office now ... doesnt help...

what kinda food do u usually take?

rice / salads?

What kind of routine cardio do u do in hk? job ? join gym?  other type of sport?

quantity does still matter.  I once watched someone who professed to be on a diet eat a salad.  A whole packet that was clearly labelled "contains 4 portions".  Then she ate another one as a chaser because she "still had a hole to fill" .... suffice it to say that person is even fatter than ever today ...
So you can get fat even if you only eat the "right" foods.  

But where I do agree is that hunger craving is not entirely triggered by quantity, a part of it can be triggered by a lack of a specific type of food, and if we eat something else instead we can still have the craving and end up eating more than we really need.  

... I'll still stand by my "eat less" credo though, as the #1 priority, since eating the right stuff is not SUFFICIENT to lose or control weight.  

Oh, and you CAN lose weight eating all the wrong stuff at all the wrong times.  Eat less calories than your body needs, you'll burn fat.  Period.  So eating the right stuff is not NECESSARY either.  

The best habit to practice is to stop eating when you are 80% full.  Oh, and eat slowly, since it takes your body about 1/2 hr to adjust the hormones that were signalling you were hungry in the first place.

Yeah eating slowly does help and stopping after you've filled part way; however, for myself.. going to Asia.. I always come back home 5-6 lbs lighter..
I Asia I cut out the potato chips and etc.. I constantly keep to drinking 1L of water a day and there's no snacks usually included in my diet..

Thus I stand at 5'6" and weigh 115lbs with waist 28

if you really want to lose weight, it's just not about eating right, it's also about exercise. That's the most important aspect of keeping fit and being lean. Trust me, I know about this nutritional stuff. I've been working out and exercising for teh good part of a decade. I've read about nutrition and workouts my entire life. And my measurements are absolutely correct. If you dont believe me, that's fine but I can tell you I'm stronger and leaner pound for pount than 90% people. People have referred me to as the next Bruce Lee not for my martial arts but for my lean muscle mass and definiton.
