Interesting comments and, yeah, the wedding thing in HK never ceases to amaze and surprise me. My wife will tell
me we're invited to so-and-sos wedding reception and my reaction is always ... oh, how nice of them to invite us.
And then I have to hand over $500 for the red envelope; WTF. And these are always 2nd or 3rd generation
Honkongers who are not poor by any means and are often richer than me. The last couple - we couldn't even
make it to their reception because of another appointment, but I still had to hand over the cash. And the guy
owns a fuckin restaurant in Hollywood.

And then at CNY, I have to hand over a shit-load of cash for the red envelopes for all the members of her family -
and there are a lot of them; mother, sisters, brothers and they're ALL married with kids. I guess this means the
tradition is still being passed on the the kids - even the very young ones.

I believe the market price now is $800 for secondary class restaurant.

If held in 5 stars hotel / high end restaurant , bout $1K.

If you are not attending but being officially invited with the Red Bomb......$300 to $500.

Yeah I heard $800. My bro got indirectly called cheap at work. I think he was asking the going rate amongst the guys and when the question got to a female colleague... her response was: "$500 wa! Who's so cheap to give $500?!"

You cheap bastards! , $500 is NOTHING , my cousins friggin write on the invitation £300 , thats $4000 HKD! and you think $500 is bad!.

Before with a better exchange rate it was closer to $4500!
