Subways are dangerous...

Has anyone ever walked through that subway (tunnel that goes across a busy road type subway, rather than one that has trains running through it) on Saigon Street, Jordan, that takes you underneath Nathan Road?  One exit of the subway takes you along side the big Wing On department store in Jordan.

Which genius' idea was it to put in a step right at the top of the stairs down into the subway so that people could trip on it and fall down the stairs???  First time I used that subway it almost happened to me but luckily I managed to grab the hand rail and only fell down a couple of steps.  I think its to help stop the tunnel flooding but its damn well dangerous to people.  Almost pulled a muscle in my leg as I tripped down the stairs.  If that happened in the UK, the council or whoever is responsible for the subway would get sued.  You would have throught a smaller much safer ramp would have done the trick of trying to keep out rain water draining into the tunnel but no, someone decided a step would be the best way.

All these subways have a step at the tom and like you said, it is to stop water from going in when there's
a small flood.
Sue ? I don't think so, not in HK ... in the States definately !

Hope you're OK !

Thought the Police would get to you first...shoot to kill, no questions asked ?
Don't they then reconfigure a terrorist pic to look like the victim or is that the otherway round?

yeah i use the subway around once a month as i travel to the area sometimes.
all i can say about the subways in hong kong is a "trip" is the worst you can get....
or you may meet a tramp sleeping there... like the one very close to hk polytechnic university at hung hom

this is the worst you can get.

unlike london where you can get all sort of shit going on... musicians, beggars, tramps,
i remember i walked through the subway at elephant and castle...
a few years back... god... it was horrible...

I think the subways in HK generally are really safe and clean - compared to what we have in OZ at least.  Too bad about the step CGE.....maybe you need to get your eyes checked????

Don't think it's necessarily a problem with my eyes, I just don't expect a nasty little inconsiderate design flaw with no real regards for public health and safety.  You would think that a little ramp or a partially covered drain would have done the trick but they just got lazy and put in a step instead.

A drain would be a good solution, but where would it drain too?  I take yoour point though, it is one of those places where you don't expect to have a step.  Hope you didn't do too much damage.

Subways here are heaven compared to the "subways" (local speak : MTR) in the US. The difference: here very few blacks and no guns.

This is not racist , this is fact based on crime statistics.

Yes but have you read BWG ?

Randall wrote:

In Hong Kong, when disputes reach the point beyond words, and fists just aren't enough to drive home your point, the go-to weapons are as follows (in no particular order): bottle, hammer, knife, chopper, and water pipe.

This is because handguns are illegal.

So while the lack of firearms is good as fewer murders are committed, in a way it's bad, because it suggests that Hong Kongers are only too willing to do the wet work.

There is a drain down in the subway itself so maybe they could connect to that and the water could drain to wherever that drain drains to.  I didn't notice any locals tripping up on the step during the few brief moments I was using the subway so maybe the locals have come to expect stuff like this and are more careful.
