Luck at the moment, with the way economy is going.  it helps if you got a network of people, which can speed things up a bit.  Depending on your major, I think there will be a lot more job openings in Shanghai or Beijing then in HK.

maybe you should ask one of our members for a job ...
http://forum.sex141.com/eforum/v ... &extra=page%3D1

seriously, finish your studies first and then look at your options ... if you do really well in your studies you'll
be head hunted !  but job enviroment in any country will be pretty bad for the next 2 years.

obviously banks, brokerages, law firms and accountancies won't be hiring, probably for 2 or more years.
i read somewhere, a reuters or bloomberg report, that mcdonald's will expand aggressively this year, but probably not the right company for someone with a double major, especially as they try to favor people who started at the bottom.
retailers and retailers' suppliers (li & fung being the biggest example) are sacking as well. thousands of factories supposedly closed in southern china.
hotels, airlines won't be expanding anytime soon i reckon. ditto for casinos.
as for the ports, a drive by kwai chung will show you shipping's comatose.
hk doesn't have any heavy industry. no options for you either in r&d, biotech or infotech.
i hear imagi's doing well, so if you're an animator, send your resume. but that was from a mate who works there and is a glass half full sorta guy, even when the glass is 9/10ths empty.
which leaves you with government service. maybe we'll actually hire people who'll craft and enforce proper regulations.
sorry if i'm bringing you down. think best chance for you might be to join a company like philip morris international or roche or johnson & johnson, make your mark then request a move to asia.

i dont think you want to start at the bottom rung in HK.

I see HK like how i see big corporations, great if you go in mid-top tier but it will be very bad if you go in as a lowbie scrub.

Stay in the states/wherever you finished school and get some experience. When you are a bit more senior you might have a chance at some companies in HK.

Even western companies in hk work very very hard hours compared to the states, just keep that in mind.

After you get your two BA's maybe you can get your MBA in Hong Kong.  According tot eh Financial Times Hong Kong University has one of the best MBA programs in the world.  Once you're doing studies over there you can figure out how to stay there.

You guys are so bad..  Embellishing slightly on a CV I can understand more than outright lies on a CV.  Employers in OZ don't do reference and credit checks, or order college transcripts?

How about because it's just plain wrong?  And you might get blackballed?  That's big time trouble if your field is very specialized.  Word spreads around quite quickly, at least in the circles that Im familiar with.  They have databases of people who lie on their CV or have some kind of red flag, sort of like fingerprints or DNA testing for criminals.

Agree with bethpageblack on his point...Hong Kong is such a small place that word goes around pretty fast. People would treat you like a leper

well if you're the son of one of the world's richest men it's ok to lie about your qualifications, i guess:
http://www.iht.com/articles/2001/03/22/li_ed3_.php

and check out the snarky letter writer:
http://www.iht.com/articles/2001/03/28/edletters_ed2_.php

i wonder if he knows how to read relative-value charts or at least stock-price graphs.

I didn't know that Richard Li has three Ivy League degrees.

It's not whether or not he graduated from so and so school; it's just why do you have to lie about it?  Especially Richard Li?  He has absolutely no reason to lie.  The cash his family has is all the credential he needs.

It would be funny if Richard Li or some other celeb lurked on the board.

no, the story says richard li (or at least pccw) lied about his having a degree from stanford.
it was the letter writer who said he had 3 ivy league graduate degrees and that richard li was a "sharp guy. period."
anyone who looks at pccw's share price over the past decade will see just how smart richard is.
and if grade-a celebs can pick up streetwalkers and play warcraft, why can't they be cyber mongerers? yes it would be funny if we could out them

I know, I was just joking about Richard Li writing that letter.
