You can order juices or soda for yourself. If the wg has to also drink a non-alcoholic drink, that is not a problem as you will be still paying a lot for the wg's special drinks. There will be no discount off the wg's special drink that I have ever heard of.

As Doghead mentions, you don't have to drink alchohol at these places. You should visit escapade or traffik that a typical pickup joints.

I would second Traffik, the band is pretty good and it's free to get in. If you can get into Neptune's for free, then that's worth a try also but invariably they'll try and charge a couple hundred bucks or more.

They dont care if you buy an over-priced coke or a beer.  What the bars do care about is that you buy at least a few drinks, and if you take a lady out, that you've bought her 1 or 2 aswell.  

Some of these bars will charge entrance to certain races (I've read about it here a few times: Indians seem to be targeted a lot).  I have no idea if true but they claim the reason is that "they dont buy drinks - just try to find girl and go."  The bar makes no money if no drinks are purchased (the girls are all freelancers - the bar does not see a penny of their earnings).

So, play the game, give the bar their share (a few drinks) and you'll be wlecomed with open arms next time.

You can work on your personal skills by trying to pickup girls.  I am guessing that since certain religions refrain from the use of prophylactics so it is best to practice abstinence.

Fact is the best time to meet girls in Wanchai is precisely the time that most guys are going there.  So if you try to go off-peak, you're limiting pickings.  
Unless you tag your mates' cellphones (e.g. put Google Latitude on them) or find out their schedule by sleuthing, you're pretty much going to have to go way off-peak.  

Only you can know your mates' schedule ... BUT

once you figured out when they are not going to be going, and you want to avoid them,
rest assured, you can ALWAYS find a few WGs even at the off-est of off-peak times.  

Walk in confidently, looking a bit stressed, wearing a suit, acting like you stepped out of the office to relax for an hour.  If it's working hours, FOR SURE you can bet any girls on the premises are 'working', whether full-time or not

On peak hours (after 10pm most nites) EVERYBODY in the bar knows the game - that's why they are there!  If it's Happy Hour that they are there (say 5pm - 8pm) well, it's too early for most WG's anyway.  So, if your mates are in Neptune after 10pm partying.., well.., JOIN THEM and party-down!  They are hunting pussy as well.

If he's trying to avoid his mates, maybe it is cuz he has an SO and they might be single so it's too risky.  Isn't there a Sunday bar where all the maids go in the afternoon on their day off?  Maybe he can hit that if he needs to go at an off time.  The only other thing I would recommend is the walk ups or HG if he needs to be more discreet.

Yes, the maids fill up Makati and Neptune on Sundays - but his mates are just as likely to be at these haunts as well.

The only way to avoid his mates (if they frequent WanChai) is not to go.  Use the walk-ups instead, as you suggested.

The concept of hitting the bars on a Sunday afternoon is so foreign to me(unless it's a sporting event), but these places sound more like nite clubs.  I think of nite clubs as a Friday nite or sat nite pastime.  If I have to entertain cuz a guest or client is in town I might take them out on a weeknight but that is the exception.

I would have thought a Sunday afternoon would be free of mates, but apparently guys can sniff out the punani and they'll show up wherever the ladies are.
