I'm joined with most of the other "active" members in wishing there was a way to stop new users from posting meaningless one line "great post" or "awesome pictures" messages. These are clearly there to attempt to build karma artificially. ...
This is a tough one ... since the majority of the newbie's respond well to feedback, I for one would rather see them make a post and then work up to making meaningfulposts, than have them be scared of making their first post. Certainly I cut people more slack if their posts is fewer than 10. A rank newb like that won't have a clue about karma or reading access and I believe are just being inconsiderate rather than trying to get points up.
For the others who really ought to know better, well, it's like a game of hitting gophers! Part of the fun
Having a few show up and get slapped with -ve karma is a good way to keep the message out there for all the other newbs and lurkers. Sometimes a message needs to be sent a few times - progressively more forcefully - before it gets into a guy's skull.
The reality is people are lazy, and the bigger the forum gets, the more likely it is for newbs to take shortcuts instead of reading up. No big deal - we've got the tools to handle it, and should be glad we're attracting new posters.
