I want to apologize to the other posters in this thread. You were right - Transformers 2 is a masterpiece of cinematographic art. In fact, I'd put it right up there with Citizen Kane and Persona. Certainly Kubrick, Bergman, Hitchcock, Fellini,and Kurosawa never did anything on this scale.
The character development was superb, the plot subtle and surprising. The relationship between the sentient machines and the human protagonists illustrated universal themes of love and tragedy rarely addressed in Hollywood films.
Obviously the director was able to convince the money guys to put aside all concern for profit and, for once, create a no-compromise quality film. Hopefully, we'll see more of this now that Transformers has shown that profit and art are not incompatible.
So what do you think - Oscar for best film?
