Has anyone seen Seth Rogen recently? The funny guy from Knocked up and Superbad. He probably lost  over 30 lbs. He said his secret was nothing special, just diet and excercise. So  thats realy all it takes!

I was told to it works best to alternate between doing weightlifting and cardio every 2 weeks.  Prevents your body from adapting and getting used to either as to gain maximize benefit.

its a diet where you avoid carbohydrates and only eat proteins and fat. So steaks, bacon and egg, sallads are allowed while bread, rice, potatoes, sodas is a big no =) I heard from many people that this diet works but it is really tough after just a few days.

Pilates.

Yes, this sounds a bit girly, but it seriously works.

Doing core exercises (the trunk of the body), will help tone the muscles in that area, and it's great for you physically.

And depending on your age, it might be better for you, since there's less stress on your knees.

Even better is to go swimming (full body cardio, low impact on joints), but I don't know if there's a pool available to you.

no carbs is freakin' tough.  you'll be sleepy/tired 24/7.

and there's nothing girly about pilates.  it takes a man to finish those crazy routines.

i also support swimming.  i think competitive sports are better for men because the idea of "competition" really pushes your body to the limit.

I tried the Protein Diet several years ago.

It works, it's just hard to do (depending on where you are).

I lost 7 lbs in a week.

After the first week, the drowsy/tired feeling will go away, and so will the headaches.
That's when your body is used to burning fat for energy.

The best motivator when you're on a Protein Diet, is to get Ketone strips.

When your body is burning fat, it's called Ketosis.
This produces Ketones.
Ketone strips will measure how much ketones you're producing.

Basically the Ketone strips is showing you if you're burning a lot of fat, or not.

Being able to SEE PHYSICAL PROOF that you're burning fat, is a great motivator, because the scale is too inexact.
With the Ketone strips you know you're burning fat, and it's not just water weight, etc.

Also, it will tell you if you're cheating on the protein diet.
Often you're eating carbs, and you don't even know it....

Did you do any exercise while doing the protein diet? I heard it is bad for your heart.

The simplest proof you're burning fat is if you start having bad breath and BO.

Fat stores all manner of poisons and smelly stuff dissolved in it very efficiently.  When you start burning the deeper layers of fat, they have a higher concentration of other organics in them since they (by definition) have been around longer.

Just something to be aware of and watch for.  Don't lose weight too fast otherwise you're hammering your liver and kidneys processing the toxins coming out of your fat reserves.

how do you use the ketone strips? do you pee on it? rub it on your skin? put it on your teeth? up your butt oh and where do you get them?

jokes aside --- i think everyone has BO this time of the year, it's insanely hot in hong kong.

Ketone strips are pee strips.  Just wave it in front of your pee strips.
Not sure how easy they are to find in HK though. Easy enough to find in the U.S.
The ones I got were a combination Glucose/Ketone strip.
Only used it for the Ketone part though.

True enough.

Yes, the BO and bad breath did appear.

Problem with people in general though, is they want a quantatative proof that they're doing something right.
Bad breath and BO can be caused by eating too much garlic.
Weight loss can be attained by losing water weight (which will occur early in the diet).

Seeing scientific proof that you're burning fat is real motivation.....

Or at least, it motivated me.  YMMV.

Oh, and I forgot to mention...

On the Ketone strips...
at least the ones I had, the higher the ketone level, the darker the strip mark was.  There's usually a chart on the package to see how much ketones you're producing.

Just watch out for hidden carb items....
those can really make the Protein diet ineffective.

Things that you don't really think have carbs, add up.
Too much greens (lettuce), onions, any roots (besides potatoes, things like carrots).

If I remember correctly, you need to be intaking less than 10 grams of carbs a day, for the first 2 weeks.
then slowly introduce carbs into your diet.  How much carbs depends on your metabolism and what your goal is (to maintain, or lose more weight).

Best thing is to find and Atkins book.

I didn't exercise while on the diet....

But it was mainly because I'm a programmer, and it was crunch time on the project we were working on.
So I didn't have time to exercise. This diet DOES strain your internal organs though... so be careful if you have any medical problem already....
Which is why they created the South Beach Diet....  a healthier modified Protein Diet, but not as fast way to lose weight.

Luckily, the protein diet is well received in the LA area, and going to places like In-N-Out Burger asking for a hamburger Protein Style was fairly normal.  (It's a burger without the bun. Instead they wrap the burger in lettuce)

Still, eating out, and staying on the diet is realllllly hard.
No bread, pasta, rice, potatoes, or anything sweet pretty much nixes most things on the menu.

It's probably even harder for people in HK.
