Why not to buy the iPhone 3Gs

Why not to buy the iPhone 3Gs,  Well because they have already designed the 4th generation iphone!!!!  A client of mine is developing the battery for the new iphone and Apple have made some major changes, so dont get the 3Gs!!  Its like a Vista but for iphones.

Agreed. The latest iPhone isn't worth the upgrade if one is already carrying the iPhone 3G.

Your client is developing the battery for the next generation iPhone? Tell your client to increase the battery lifespan. The iPhone battery lifespan is probably one of the shortest in the market.

kinda like how i bought a 13" macbook then the stupid 13" macbook pro came out a week later... cheaper too!! ... buggers... i coulda really used that damned firewire connection. just really irritating how apple doesn't disclose many of their plans, my friend is a reseller and even he was shocked and upset he had ordered in bulk just prior to the new release.

Not just typical Apple strategy.... it's used by any company that has somewhat of a market power.

They already have the brand power so they can release different (yet amazingly similar with only a few tweaks/features added) products and know ppl will buy it.

Weaker brands have to bring out the best products so to speak to compete with the brand name that has been established.

well even if they are currently developing the next iphone it will still be another year before its released looking at their current release cycle. I doubt that they would let out a new one within the next 3-6months if the changes aren't significant enough.

Cool, Thanks for the info. As I previously owned the 1st Gen, then switched to the 3G. Before the official announcement of the 3GS, I was hoping for an iPhone Nano as everyone were talking about. So I guess I'm going to wait. But originally were going to switch to the 3GS when it officially comes out in HK.
Thanks bro

Absolutely true! There is ALWAYS a next phone in the design phase at all times!

Your best bet is to buy new tech when it's just released. Phones only last a year anyway ;-)

Well the most economic thing to do, would be to trade in your old phone, don't know if that is possible yet, but i guess i will find out on the 10th

but their release cycle so far has been once a year...so it's obvious they will be releasing a 4th gen iphone, unless you have a release date for 4th gen iphone, your msg is quite irrelevant...

When trading in your old phone. Go to Mongkok, Shamshuipo or even Tst East. Its best to have the phone in a mint condition with original packaging. This way, you'll get a better price.
I always go to TST East. Been through so many phones and the people knows me very well. Just don't buy ie: iPhone 3GS when it first comes out. As they will be marking it up so much. As I will assume the '3' will require a contract for 18 months. The way these shop sell is based on the phone's price and the contracted period. With all theses added up, you'll be paying a hefty price. WAIT for '3' to drop price and no contract, then it'll be a good bargain.

I have to say you are kind of stating the obvious here, of course by the time '3' drops price the iphone will no longer be new...

why not buy a vcr now? i'm sure it's cheaper than a dvd player.

I don't think you can buy a vcr in HK, only DVD and Blu-Ray players

Of course its obvious. Now that Apple site has a price on the 3GS, the phone shops won't be able to make a profit out from you. At least when trading it in, in a mint condition that is, you'll be able to get a higher $$, as these 2nd hand markets are in demand in China.

mizunofan - you may as well go the the first gen portable mobile if you're talking of obvious reasons

mate, i traded in my last phone to get the iphone 3G without a contract, it was a pure phone upgrade the total upgrade cost was 1800hkd, which if i say so myself wasn't too bad, the hassle of going around to SSP or mongkok trying to sell off your phone versus a straight trade in 3 doesn't seem to be worth it.
