Is it necessary to start a new thread?

Dear Moderators;

I have not been in this forum for a long time, just over 2 months. I would consider myself, still, a newbie and would not say I am a seasoned punter but I do try to contribute. This is only a suggestion. My suggestion, for now, applies to the China Section. I have notice people are creating 'New Thread' for their own, individual, exclusive and single experience - i.e. 1 Report 1 Thread. Unfortunately, these newly created thread are shortlived. They get relegated very quickly. Do you agree?

For example Bro IDK and Bro Yoneyama has started their own thread for SZ Punting and CA/DG respectively. Please don't get me wrong, they have done extremely well, following the forum format to the latter, especially Bro IDK who have read through and absorb the necessary information to punt at SZ alone. I am sure Bro Yoneyama did the same too, alas, I should have gone with then when I had the chance.

What I am suggesting, why don't they continue posting on an existing thread with the same subject and similiar connection like Province (DongGuan), Town (CP, CA or HJ) and location (like Futian and Seibu - Hooker Alley)? Isn't it easier for newbies and even seasoned punters alike to get and share information? It could be much easier for you guys to do your job of moderation? Less thread = less headache. What do you think?

IMHO (A) - I think it is better to start a new subject on a new thread only when there are none. For example, places like Helongjiang and the China North-East Areas. I have not seen them or have the Admin/Moderators deleted them?

IMHO (B) - I think those who start a thread to ask silly questions are worst than those who post single sentence replies and spammers. Aren't they wasting bandwith (if there is such a thing) and moderators time scrutinizing the New Thread?

Thank goodness for the points system being 1 karma point per post (regardless how stupid or good they are). Let say if the points system is 10 karma points per thread, could you imagine the outlook of this forum by then? Every Tom, Dick and Harry reader and your so-called 'KARMA WHORES" will have many field days.

My suggestions:
1) Tell all to contribute to existing thread with similiar connection - i.e. Province, Locations, Cities, Villages, Towns, District, Joints and even same WG's
2) If new thread is created, why don't the moderators move the posting or FR to the appropriate threads. Move the attached pictures too, at the same time inform the poster by PM.

Just My "Insomnia" 2 Cents Worth!

Regards
Waikeekee

System works well now with Bros posting their own reports and posts, Bros build rep and other bros will look out for their reports/posts. It keeps continuity and focus. Piling multiple reports/posts into one thread will end up burying reports mixed in with massive volumes of posts and will be difficult to navigate. I think more work for the mods, not less.

You're right some reports/posts can be shortlived but IMO that's a good thing, it is survival of the fittest, or in this case the most interesting and informative. Ask yourself what thread will you read, the one with 3,000 hits or only 10? The threads/reports most interesting to the Forum will naturally percolate to the top and stay there for a reasonable amount of time (= no work for mods). If a Bro comes up with the definitive "hunters guide" to a special interest place it would be a candidate for the mod(s) to "stick" to the top of the section.

Check out the Macau section as an example for a specific focus area. For example, Bros can report, post Q&A, etc. True reports are highlighted blue / bold if the girl is identifiable/locatable. Then check the "stick" section at the top, there you will see a cross reference for Bros RA30+ to all the reports x-ref'd by venue, and even down to nationality of the WGs for the larger venues (kindly maintained by Bro's Cunning and Optus). You will also see one thread, "Macau Hunting Info", containing the essential info for mongering in Macau.

Check out Bro Cunning's report on Sanado#8561 ..... as of today 150 responses and 9,454 hits. Would you really want to bury that in some obscure place on page view XX of a thread YY?

Hi Waikeekee,

welcome to the forum - and creative thinking is most welcome!

You're right, it is irritating to the more serious and more up-to-date readers to start a new thread that repeats an old topic.
Actually it is even more irritating to senior members if an old and out-of-date thread is brought up by posting a reply ... unless of course compelling new information has come to light and it needs to be re-opened.

This means anyone reading this posting should also be aware of the Search function - it is essential to use this before starting a new thread or posting a new question, to avoid being seen as ill-informed or lazy .

Having said that, my own observation is that threads have a natural life of their own - the majority of them die a natural death and become obsolete.  The reality is the reports are only as valid as a newspaper is: turnover is so fast that by next week it's hardly worth reading.  This means the current system of promoting active threads works well - old threads fade away organically without requiring manual intervention.  It also means that having multiple reports on the same girl also works well - we can see the continuity and notice the ones who can be relied upon to give consistent long-term good service.  Lastly there is the question of what to do with "evergreen" topics - and this is handled by making some of the threads permanent fixtures at the top of the forum listing.

Of course, anything that requires additional work by a moderator is an absolute no-no

The mods are volunteers - unpaid members like you and me - who are showing a lot more commitment of effort and time than anyone else.  The rule is don't ask them to do anything, and don't cause them more hassle!!

Best thing we can do is to use our intelligence when making a post, especially in deciding whether a topic should be a new thread or a comment on the tail of an existing one, and in choosing the section of the forum to post to.  All of that remains a matter of judgement ...

One thing I must say, it is not as easy to mod the china section, needless to say identifying the geographical locations.

To consolidate all reports/info into one from various bros into one thread by location will be very cumbersome and most of the time require real experience and recon to these joints. Mods are not as resourceful as you think when it comes to China punting, there are just too many joints and places to try.

Keep the forum simple, things are looking ok right now.

Sure that's true, I said Macau was "example for a specific focus area". Point is I said WKK's proposed new system would not work for Macau, let alone whole of China.

Of course the forum will remain the way it is. Even IF I could which I can't! I am not trying to change anything, It was merely a suggestion. Just bringing up a point for discussion and analysis. By the way Twice, how do I do those "multi-quote" replies? Please show me.

Bro Froddo;

I couldn't agree more with you, I am sure the system works perfectly well, no complains. I was just thinking by compiling reports, if it is good or a bad idea. Wanted to know yours and others opinion, that's all. In other Forums. Most FR related/relevant to the title are compiled into 1, 2 or MAX 3 threads and if someone starts a silly or a useless thread, he/she will be given negative points and heavily critisized. Anyway, this is this and that is that. I shan't compare a Mercedes and a BMW, each hold it own.

I now see what you mean. Survival of the fittest or in the case the most interesting thread. In addition, the last thing I want to do is to create more thing for the MOD to do, I am sure the MOD are as busy as it is already. Another point, noted. I will check out the Macau Section. As I don't travel to Macau much, so sledom browse this section. Thanks for your imput.

Hi DAtagnan,

You are the man! Your arguement is always articulate and to the point. Are you a lawyer or something? As per my reply to Bro Froddo, I really do not want to increase the workload of the MOD. Why would I? As you mentioned, they are volunteers who has proven commiment to the Forum. That is very noble and exemplary. I believe you, their commitment is unquestionable. Agreeed.

Hunter;

Nobody, especially me, is saying that the thread is in trouble or not good. I, too, liked it. Just trying to suggest if another method is better, otherwise shelve my idea, no harm is done. At least I am thinking of ways to make improvment so that everyone can benefit. Hey, I want to help too. I still do not know how to repay Senior Brothers Namely Marsupial (The Emperor) and akka. They really helped by providing positive and good advice.

I trust all subjects are open for discussion, right? Before I started, I always have the impression that the Moderators (to me is like you guys are the Grand Savant Punters) know most thing about the punting scene or at least more than us Punters. Thank you for sharing and clearing that is not true. I now have a much better understanding of how things works and function.

PS: By the way, I have PM Bro Jiebon this afternoon but have not received any reply from him yet. Hope you guys will not leave me behind and go yourself.

Dear CunningLinguist;

Finally, should be the last reply of the day.

Hi, I believe this is the first time we are communicating. Also, thank you for your input. Your opinion regarding Macau and China, I agree.

Don't mean to sound like a broken record/CD, but how do you apply the "Multi Quote" function if you want to reply to several different postings? I think I have seen it before but can't seem to find it here. I have so many replies (as above) I wouldn't want to be branded a spammer, especially after Twice's "Getting Started Thread" again - Forum Etiquette and FAQ for newbies.
