How to get to the Airport cheaply

Either Hong Kong is experiencing some serious inflation problems or I've gone cheap....perhaps a combination of both.

But I'm sure as hell the airport express was never $90 from Kowloon when I was here 12 months ago and the MTR fares seem to have gone up also

I dont need to be at HK airport til 3pm so what bus or MTR combo do I use to get to the airport for less than $90? , I dunno $90 isn't exactly much considering a taxi costs $230 from kowloon but effectively backpackng on a
motorbike has made me become cheap(er) than I once was ...and its not as if I am working right now.

Anythoughts?

Thanks.

if you not in a rush, catch a bus
i have more or less given up on the airport express as a means of getting to/from the
airport. it will reach heathrow express prices soon enough (one of the biggest rip-offs ever).

Yes, but I don't think you can get your bike on to the bus !

Yeah, taking the 'E' bus is the most cost effective way !   are you leaving already ?

My bike is on a ship somewhere in the pacific ocean, I'm not leaving so soon I just have to do a meet and greet at the airport for family who have some of my stuff stored at their house here and I need to go and get it.

I dont know when I leave , I've got no ticket out of here , but HK has been a bit of a dissappointment so far after Korea and one of YOUR old friends I met in Beijing by complete accident.

But I might be off to Macau on the premise of going to watch the international fireworks competition on Sept 5th , an excellent excuse.

Slightly cheaper and maybe faster depending on the interchange at Tung Chung, but you can take the MTR Tung Chung Line from Kowloon station to Tung Chung for $13.5 (octopus) or $15.5 (ticket) and then catch the S1 bus from Tung Chung to the Airport for $3.5.

Whether its faster depends on how long you need to wait for the bus.

a corollary to this is the following, take the Tung Chung Line from say Kowloon Station to Tung Chung for $15.5 (single journey ticket), then walk over to the Novotel Hotel (1 or 2 minute walk), then pretend you're a hotel guest at the Novotel and take their free shuttle bus to the airport.

That's how this cheap bastard used to get from downtown Manhattan New York to the Newark, New Jersey USA airport - take the PATH train to Penn Station in Newark, then take Gateway Hilton bus to the airport.  Those were the days before they built an Amtrak line right into the airport.  No one ever asked me if I was a guest or not.

I take A21 from Hung Hom Terminal all the way to the Airport (Both T1 or T2) and cost HKD33.00 one way. Not the cheapest but the surest. Travel time from 1 end to the other is about 75 Minutes. Bus ply Nathan Road via Mongkok, Cheong Sha Wan and crosses the Tsing Ma Bridge. I am always seated on top and right in front. I can never get tired of the excellent view when the bus travel on the bridge. Best view in Hong Kong.
