It's been shown that our concept of beauty is a fluid one, and is defined by what we see in our environment

Basically, we find average qualities the most attractive
- average height
- average skin colour
- average shape of face
etc

... and this may account for why Americans are still able to reproduce in spite of their national characteristics

Of course being attracted to averages doesn't explain why we are also attracted to opposites - Asain to Western, Western to Asian, etc - that's another dynamic, understandable by reference to our own position in the population  

But in terms of what it is we like within our target population, it's the average that draws us.  

this by the way is one of the reasons why the crew of the Bounty mutinied ... but that's a longer post that I don't have time for this morning ...

I think that most of the stereotypical preferences posited here would probably break down under experimental testing.  I just find it hard to believe that there is that much unanimity of preference among any group.  I'm sure that my preferences don't mirror that of other Americans...  not even the highly-filtered sub-group of Americans who have migrated to HK.  Hell, I don't even agree with myself half the time.  I might tell you that I adore slim, small-breasted Asian women in preference to Western women with big boobs...  But I'll also be the first to say that my little friend stood up and took notice when I saw MickJag's link to young Lyla Stone...  http://classifieds.myredbook.com/Lylah_Stone/photos/286328

For me, the bottom line is that when I'm in HK, I find some of the HK women to be very beautiful...  But the same is true for China, Japan, Korea, Thailand, Malaysia, Philippines, Indonesia, India, Turkey, Australia, France, Germany, Italy, Spain...  and the list goes on and on...

Women...  I just love them!

Right on there Bro...beautiful women are everywhere, anywhere in the world. Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder after all.

Variety is the spice of life and if we can have the variety, why not!

I have noticed that many non-asian guys who date Asian girls have a type: Very straight long hair, very small slit like eyes, somewhat tall/thin but with some shape. They usually wear heavy makeup on the eyes and cheeks, and use very red lipstick.

This is by no mean a generalization, just what I have observed on the street, friends etc...

Are you talking about Asian girls in HK?

I do notice that local HK girls who date non-Asian 'eventually' acquire a different look (makeup and fashion styles) after dating a non-Asian for a period of time. These girls may have started off looking like the usual local look, but most will morph into a 'fake' western style.

I don't know how these local girls acquire this different look. It is so different that it would turn off the local guys and overseas Asian guys who prefer the traditional Asian look.

Do they get this look from the non-Asian female friends of their bfs? Or are they 'taught' that way by the stuff their bfs buy for them to wear? Or are they trying to emulate the look of the Asian celebrities/newscasters as seen in USA?

Perhaps anyone who is a non-Asian and have dated local girls can explain these changes? Or maybe you never noticed?

ps: oh yes, some of these girls become more willing to get a suntan when dating a non-Asian guy. bizzare, considering I cannot get my SO to get a tan.

Also ever noticed how - quite literally - American-continental Asian American women have BIGGER mouths than their small mouthed East Asian counterparts?

Could it be that the burgers and all big size foods (pun intended) stretches their lips a bit too far wide ?  Chuckle chuckle chuckle

I've noticed they tend to be fatter but hadnt notice the lips. Should go back in the states (just out if intellectual curiosity of course!).

I have not interviewed any of them about how they got to look that way, if they changed after dating a westerner or of they looked that way before... but basically they look like Lucy Liu (who I find quite unattractive, but is appealing to many westerners)

I know exactly what your talking about, maybe not in your exact terms, but your spot on about " that kind " of Asian girl.  Unfortunately most of these girls have a personality to match that I usually find quite unattractive, imo they usually have this self hating/superiority complex.  Kinda difficult to explain in short, but most of whom I've met usually have quite nasty opinions of their more localized ( usually prettier ) counterparts.

Absolutely!

I do not want to generalize it.
My perspective is 20 years in Thailand and I have since then a couple of very good Thai male friends here.
I was with them on many occasions together. Starts from state receptions, HiSo weddings, got to know movie stars,
judges, politicians, but many times we went also together to the Massage Parlors, GoGo bars and Thai Student discos.

At all: My Thai – asian friends have a more fullness, more expanded view of beauty.
It is not only the physical attributes of a girl, also her behavioural, charisma, education, history, family background,
material status, etc. All together, make for them up the image of beauty.

And I am, as a westerner, a gwai lo, a falang, a long nose?
Hey, I enjoy it to walk around in Bangkok and to hear 10 times a day:
“Hello Handsome man where are you going?”
Then I look at her, and I am pretty sure that my focus from beauty lays predominantly on her physical attributes.
