And they over write earlier footage to conserve disc space. Up the FPS, split the screen into 4, like many WG door cameras have. 500GB only lasts a week tops. #5 Post at 25-6-2012 18:56  Profile P.M.  Font size: S M L Such CCTVs are meant to record activities around the walk ups premises and not inside the WG flat. AFAIK these  CCTV recordings are on a "loop" mode, meaning they overwrite the data once a pre determined set of  time had elapsed. I don't know how long, but to give example, 3 days/72 hours loop. If no "event" has taken place within that time they'll just leave the vid recording, else they'll stop it and hand it over to Investigators. Also most CCTVs aren't on record mode. They're just there for WGs security use. Any recorded CCTV inside a walkup flat covering your deed is "in my opinion, illegal" As Seaj said, they'll make more money protecting your privacy and THEIR business, compared to selling a one time porn shoot.

Here's my tip, close all the lights in the suspected area until its pitch black or dark enough. bring out your camera phone... Shoot on camera or movie mode. Look for bright spots! Hidden cams mostly use infrared LEDs so they can see in the dark. Fortunately, camera phones can detect infrared LEDs.
