Am I in sh*t?

At lunchtime I was having a quick flick through the personals on CL - on my personal iPhone. The casual encounters section where all the girls post adverts.

I had been on there for 2 or 3 mins when I had a moment of terror. Noticed my iPhone had defaulted to work's wireless network rather than 3G. Sh@@ myself and logged off.

I'm praying this doesn't get noticed by IT. I was logged in on the guest pass code...but it's a small office.

Am I screwed?

why are you in shit? if your office has a policy against going to CL they would have blocked it on your network.

unless of course your wife is the director of IT

I do not think so bro.  small offices mean less time for IT to go looking for these alerts.  Only, if a really red flag appears, which I do not think will happen in your case.  Our IT dept. has blocked these types of sites

They clearly don't have a policy about CL in general, but this section is surely off bounds, one look is enough to realize its sex adverts. The pictures these girls post are pretty explicit and its obvious they are selling sex.

Whilst I logged off straight away as soon as I realized, I checked out four or five ads so its obviously not just a click in the wrong place.

On the plus side the web address is reasonably inconspicuous.

Another reason to have a totally deprecate phone. This happened so easily, it could have been miles worse.

The losing the phone option could work...or its a great time to upgrade without being too suspicious. Only thing is that my iphone's name is a TOTAL giveaway.

I'm not sure if the IT log is sophisticated enough to have the phones name. Im guessing it is.

Unless you are completely useless and an obvious drain on the company's finances, I doubt this is the sort of thing that will get you fired or reprimanded.

From the employer's point of view, chasing down employees for this sort of behavior is time consuming and generally a waste of time.  However, if I noticed an employee on these kind of sites all the time, i might very well investigate further because I doubt you are being very productive while surfing for sex ads.

Most employers would look the other way for a single offence, even if they notice it in the first place (unlikely).  Some would give you a warning of sorts not to do it in the future.  Very few would fire you for it, and those that do generally are large orgs with zero tolerance policies.

If it were me, I'd tell you not to waste too much time surfing for sex ads, and if you're going to do so, you better share the good ones.
