There's this problem that has been bothering me ever since I arrived in Asia a couple years ago. I've talked to numerous people about this issue and no one's been able to shed some light on this.

Seems that there's a strange phenomenon with a majority of Chinese blokes and not knowing how to piss properly. Don't get me wrong, I'm not being racist and I'm Chinese myself but I barely have this issue back home. Whether it be run down factory or nice hotels (like the Venetian) or nice restaurants (like Copa, etc...) there seems to be a pool of piss under and around the urinals! It's worse if they opt to use a toilet instead of an urinal. Piss is literally all over the toilet seat and on the floor. I don't get it.

I mean, I've seen some of this when I was living in Canada but not as frequently. It bugs the hell out of me. Anyone can shed some light as to why its' like that?

What bugs me the most is when they go pee in the toilet seats. I get piss when i have my little girl with me and when i take her to the toilet the seat is just cover. And i do notice that in China is worst and not like they have big long penis on hangs 2 inch from the floor.

Is not a pretty site.

it's annoying as hell eh? My office in China and Macau have a shared washroom. Though they have many stalls, people don't seem to know how to use the urinals for number 1 and the toilets for number 2 so all the toilet seats are soaked in piss. Disgusting. To make matters worse, they don't fricking flush!!

It is true and quite an interesting observation although i have no idea why that is. Why bothers
me is that when i really need to go, and just at the entrance of the loo, i can smell the stench
that surely must be emanating from either the piss on the floor or the unflushed can.


I have been known to not step in unless it was a real emergency for me.

Level of social responsibility, social awareness, cleanness & hygiene are different in every country ...
you guys, being seasoned travellers should know that !

Ya, I understand that.. but even if you go to places like Cambodia or Thailand, you still don't see this happening as often as you do in China. And places like Cambodia surely isn't as socially aware or has better hygiene or cleanliness than China, esp in big cities like BJ, HK, or Macau to name a few.

I have travelled to many places around world.  Hands down, Chinese toilets are the worse.  Even the public toilets in India are very clean, I bet you the outhouses portrayed in the movie "Slumdog Millionaires" are cleaner than ones found in China.

Its a very simple explaination , in that China most men are not circumcised and due to private health care no bugger would pay for it unless you are a Jew/Muslim, in S Korea they are namely due to the massive US influence post 1951, and WGs I banged in Seoul thought my cock looked weird as it wasn't snipped. And getting snipped while you are older is apparently traumatic so nobody bothers as it is unusable for weeks and weeks.

If you haven't been snipped ie most Europeans and people born in China you piss by pulling your foreskin back a bit , if you dont its like putting a plastic bag on the end of a hose pipe and trying to aim it.

Judging by the fact that there is piss everywhere in many toilets I've visited in Europe many people in Europe don't seem to realise this. (I actually discovered this when I was 11 years old).


Since Chinese culture doesn't endear itself to talking about such things until very recently the proper tidy technique is not discussed.....

Hey dad how do you piss straight?! , is not something I would expect to hear too often in a chinese family conversation.

as in everything, there will always be a best and a worst ... for you guys, China just happens to be the worst ...
but I think it all depends on which provience you're in ...
I remember when I was in Xian I was commenting their public toilets were cleaner and more modern then 5 star hotels'
lobby toilets in HK !

Also should consider the population in China. The number of hit rate per hour/day per toilet.


Not only peeing all over the place but shtting as well !!! Ever seen pile of slimy shit on the wall? How the hell a person can shit on the wall?  Not only unhygienic but also hillarious!

I been to some outskirt of China for road trip and vacation and i dare not even step into the toilet. If i had too (say raining like cats and dogs), I would hold my breath for that 2 mins.
Steeping into these toilets are no difference than entering into a Ammonia production factory's stock bunker,  but at least u will provided with chemical odor supression mask.

Can't blame China, lots of aspect to improve and time will tell. Both worst and most luxurious toilet in the world can be found in China.

I even watched Indians pissing against the outside of a toilet coz even they would risk their health by going inside

OK you find rough stuff in any country, but I've never seen anything as bad as I've seen in India.

Actually beijing has a by law which is why in many Hutong toilets you see signs which say no shit in toilet.

As there is no water to wash it away people are employed to cart the buckets of shit away.

this befuddles me too with my time in china.  good thing someone here made a thread about this.

I always just theorized that mainlanders were use to pissing in a hole in the ground and pissing in the urinals was never in their training

I personally hate using public toilets especially if there no attendents looking after the facilities. ( If there is a attendent working and the toilets are dirty oh believe me i will give them hell.)  I think the toilets in the major casinos in Macau are pretty well maintained. I hate seeing a toilet seat covered in piss because no amount of wiping the seat down with toilet paper will make me sit that toilet seat which had someone else's piss on. Only if i am desperate, would i attempt to do the horse stance (  With my pants between my ankles, legs slighty spread out to take the slack of my trousers, so that my pants do not touch the piss on the floor.)  and aim for the toilet.

When I see a pool of piss around the area of the toilet or urinal, I tend to stand a bit further to avoid standing on the piss.  Since I'm standing further away, inevitably my piss will also drip on the floor.  Imagine everyone doing the same thing as me.  So there you go, that's why there is a big pool of piss on the floor...

I think with more time people will learn to be more courteous....

It annoys the hell out of me, whatever country I'm in. Even worse is at work when you see this. Oh, and people not washing their hands also, given all the bugs about nowadays!

I was crossing the Macau/Zhuhai border the other day then went to the washroom in the China side. Some guy was pissing into the drain next to the sinks but there was no one in using the urinals or the toilets!! wtf?! Then I was freaking out at him cause it's just disgusting.. but he didn't think he did anything wrong... strange strange people..

may be the govt. should put cctv's and fine them...
