World Cup chat

Something off sex (for a while)...

France made it thanks to Henry's handball... damn it!!! (apologies to France supporters... me no fan). And we will be missing Ukraine (I personally think that they are better than the Greeks). But we won't be missing C. Ronaldo after all... Anyway, Spain seem to be on cruise control, whipping Austria 5-1 in their friendly. Can't wait for WC to start. When is the WC draw by the way??

I was really hoping that Maradonna would screw things up for the Argentinian team and that they'd fail to qualify - that would have been awesome! Still haven't forgiven that cheating coke addict for his "Hand of God"...

Having watched replays of Henry's blatant handball, I thought, WOW, in fact it touched his hand twice before he chipped it back across. Feel sorry for Ireland for that goal. But shit happens. Its not the first time its happened and will not be the last unfortunately.

not only that, but he was offside as well.

my US team isn't doing very well.  They pretty much sucked big time in their two friendlies vs. Slovakia and Denmark.  Their starting forward Charlie Davies will undoubtedly miss the WC after the horrendous car crash.  MF Jermaine Jones from Schalke 04 looks not to be ready until after the winter break.  US's best defender Oguchi Onyewu is out until the spring.  Outside of the guys I just mentioned, there's only about 3 or 4 players on the team who possibly could start on one of the upper teams in the EPL or La Liga - MF Landon Donovan, F Clint Dempsey and GK Tim Howard.

I feel bad for Ireland but you feel that somehow the powers that be wanted France to win. Now if there was any justice the extra time would be replayed or Henry banned from matches at the world cup, but the way they lost is just wrong.

I was also hoping Portugal miss out but oh well, go USA!

Landon Donovan tried twice to start on the upper teams of the German Bundesliga (Leverkusen and Munich) and did not make it for some odd reasons... He was on my Fantasy Soccer team and failed me big time..

Awesome if there's a aus/nz match, and even better if both make it thru to the seond round.

Gary Lineker should be right this time...

I know almost nothing about soccer, being a rugby fan, but I think an African team or even Australia should fair pretty well, due to familiar conditions and a lot of fan support.  If I were to go for a European team, I'd pick Spain, but I think they'll fade.

My predictions:
Final: Australia Vs Brazil (3-2 in overtime)
Semi: Aus, Brazil, Argentina, Ivory Coast

at least the wanker isn't stupid enough to deny his blatant cheating.  i'd love to know what the officials were looking at though.  i don't see how they could have missed it.  at the same time, Ireland players should know to keep going until the play is whistled dead.  it's true of all sports at any level: you don't ever stop competing b/c you never know what's going to happen.

why China, India, and Russia, 3 of the most populous countries in the world, can't get teams to the WC is beyond me.  At least Russia came close and has the excuse that they lost a lot when all the neighboring USSR countries split off.  And I guess India has an excuse since everyone plays cricket and not soccer.  But China?  1.5 billion people and they have more players playing in the basketball NBA league than they have players playing in the top Euro leagues.

China spends much time focusing on other sports - diving, badminton, table tennis, weightlifting, gymnastics, all which they are the powerhouse. Only lately they have been trying to give soccer a real go. I suppose you can't have them all... give it another 5-10 years when they splurge more money into sports.
