ksoz, I'm not sure about their form at present, as I don't really follow football (rugby is the sport for men ), but I assume our biggest hope of advancing will be on how our aging dinosaurs Cahill and Kewell perform.

hunter, you can offend the kiwis as much as you like - I'll even join you (just a bit of cross Tasman rivalry - a love/hate relation we share with our kiwi cousins).

Spain is still the favourite.

We prefer to talk about underdogs.

I hope one of the African team can reach the final, at  least.

I love Torres! Would love to have his babies!

But yeah, it would be superb if an African team could actually win it... Fulfilling Pele's prophesy, albeit late.

The Americans got luck with their draw.  England will be tough but the other 2 games are against inferior opponents.  If they can't get to the knock out round, it will show how far the US is still behind the elite soccer countries. Even England can be vulnerable at times and I don't think they will be nearly as fired up for that first game as the Americans.

I will be rooting for Spain and England.  I just love watching Spain when they play and I like England b/c most games I watch are from EPL so am more familiar with the English players.

Great thread. I'm a footie fanatic! Have supported Man U since I was 8!!

Anyway, I'm obviously supporting England... really hope we can rid ourselves of the penalty curse, and that Rooney stays fit!

In all honesty though, despite the English media hyping up the three lions (ie. easy route to the semis, won Euro QF group with ease etc) I still can't see us turning up for the big games and find it hard to see us beating a team like Brazil, Spain or even Portugal who have been our bogey team in the last two major tournaments.

My heart says England, but my head says Spain. They are definetly the team to beat. A team with Torres, Fabregas, Xavi, and Iniesta is a lethal combo.

I can't wait for the kick-off!!!

Do you think conditions should play a part?  In Europe it's summer, while Sth Africa it's winter.  COuld their be problems in climatising?
