Blindfolded half-court shot

This one's starting to hit the mainstream news sites ... students at a Kansas school tried to prank a basketball coach, and bet him to try and hit a half-court shot while blindfolded ... he makes the shot first time.

yeah, saw that on the front page of yahoo yesterday. He is a basketball coach so I am sure he practices so that's not amazing at all.

Oh come off it!  I'll bet you'd say anyone can win a lottery also - hey, do you go to Macau often (other than for Saunas that is)??  You'll have a LOAD of fun dissing any high rollers you see for their skill and 'practice' ...

The man is blindfolded and just turned around 720 degrees, he has NO idea which way he's facing.  It's a totally amazing fluke of luck!

Of course, his experience at basketball means he knows the weight to throw, that certainly will have helped him get the range right, but no way he could have figured the direction ...

so the funny thing about this is that the students tried to prank the teacher, who is a popular basketball coach at the school.  He did play (as a walkon) at the University of Kansas, a traditional basketball power, so certainly he is no slouch as a basketball player.  The idea was that he would miss, but all the students would start cheering as if he hit the shot and get him all excited.  If he hit the shot, he would get tickets to the NCAA Final Four, which is almost impossible to get unless you're a bigwig.  It was egg on the face of the students as he hit the shot, but the students didn't actually have the tickets.  As it turned out, some donor I think is going to get him the tickets.

That is an amazing shot for anybody.  It definately makes it a bit easier because he is a coach and has experience in the game.  But still very difficult.  Kinda sucks for him that it was a prank and how he must have felt after he found out that there were  no tickets to be had and only got a meal gift certificate out of it.  At least there are some people offering up their final four tickets to him.

Interesting how people can come out with such big stories.  Well at least it was just for fun, and not a real contest.  In the end he makes out much better for his attempt.    
Yet another story he adds to his life, make shot blindfolded in front of crowd.

I'm guessing they must have added additional difficulties to make the shot harder.  Such as nobody tells him which way is the backboard etc.

So yes I do believe you can hit a half-court shot.  

but even he took two shots (OK, left handed, but still two shots)

... and had both eyes wide open ...
