just because it translates doesnt' mean one can say the words right or have the native accent so the WG can understand what the heck you are trying to say? Does the translator phone translate and talk in that language as well...that would be a great phone

That's going to take a whopping big chip to be able to do right.  Speech recognition AND accurate translation?  Two Holy Grails in one chip, I wonder what the battery life on that thing will be?

I didn't do it.  Really I didn't.

thats the idea of it bud. it will talk in the other language too.

"We think speech-to-speech translation should be possible and work reasonably well in a few years’ time," said Franz Och, Google’s head of translation services.

Before you get too enthusiastic about machine translation, read post #27 in this thread:

http://forum.sex141.com/eforum/v ... page%3D1&page=2

That's Google's translation of a report on Avatar from the Chinese side. It's the single most hilarious thing I've read in at least a year.

That would be real fun when your sitting in a bar with pals showing it off to them and it remember the last few things you get translated

"How much for anal, can I come in your mouth, call me big boy when i fuck you"

yeah, that would be great....

I just wonder how it would cope with strong accents (such as mine).

Having seen how some translation services get the translation totally wrong. I rather think it will cause more confusion than ever especially when trying to deal with words such as hare and hair which are pronounced the same but have totally different meanings. Also, in a tonal language, will it be able to identify between the different tones?

For example, in Thai, the word for far is glai (with a mid tone), but with a falling tone it means near.

Just hope your wife doesn't see a log of what phrases you had translated -- and where!

Trouble is, it doesn't necessarily translate the grammar, for example the Chinese refer to the timefirst. ie. we may say "Will you go to China tomorrow?" where as a literal direct translation of the Chinese would be "Tomorrow you go China yes no?"
