I remember reading on this site that DG was not really a place to go wandering around solo, checking out the scene, engaging in various kinds of fun. I guess CP is DG, kind of and also kind of not. I'm not that far away from CP and was considering going but some of those older posts have stuck in my head.

Done a lot of punting so no general noob mistakes but I'm ignorant of most things related to CP, except for what I've read here over the years.

I'm an obvious foreigner, that is to say "highly visible", which might be an issue since on the DG gathering post someone is warning of crackdowns in CA last week. Maybe the jingcha will hit CP this weekend?

The plan is just pick a hotel and check out their sauna, if I don't like it check out another. If in my sauna, bring the girl back to my room. No KTV, kind of sucks when alone and a few "can't keep mouth shut" incidents have led me to favor the solo punt. I presume I can expect no out of the ordinary risks for this, right?

bro sws, stay alert, do like the romans do, and you will be fine in cp.  a caucasion buddy of mine does 10 days there solo every 6 months.  he has the hui mei 'gold card'...which amuses me endlessly.  of course he sticks to saunas he knows and pzl for the most part.  

oh, and he's from south dakota and doesnt speak a lick of mandarin.

cp is not a war zone, nor a den of criminals.  can you find trouble? sure.  but you gotta go looking for it.  stay smart, stick to the larger hotel establishments, and you'll be ok.

raids do happen...and they plague primarily the saunas and bbs.  ktv's not so much.  there is another forum to keep more timely advisements on le activity...pm me...you may know it already.

If the person wants to go it alone and doesn't speak any Chinese, needs to do his homework before going. Don't expect people on the streets or taxis drivers to speak English for directions and questions. Most of the larger hotels do have some who speaks some basic English.


The first time I went to CP many many, years ago I  met someone there at a hotel and then it was hard.  Getting there and getting around was difficult and frustrating even for my second time around alone. I believe it will be hard if the person doesn't speak any Chinese alone but it is NOT impossible the first time. Luckily, it's not like Chang An where everything is spread out. Chang Ping is relatively small and walkable for all the activities of the hobby.  If you been to around China before it should not be an issue too with CP.

I Would suggest a agent if you're solo, he can help with bookings and if you want to join a KTV party they can arrange that and you can meet people from all over the world.  I Had a blast the first time I was in CP solo... was afraid at first cause I don't speak manadarin and can't read or write chinese but after the first trip I can manage solo alone now and feel quite safe.
