#1 Post at 19-2-2010 23:12  Profile P.M.  Font size: S M L What are the most obvious mongerers Some stand out more than others.  Today I saw a ginger westerner looking uncomfortable with a bright read face making phone calls outside one of the popular hotels.  It was so obvious especially since he was wearing a nice suit cufflinks etc etc which did not fit in with the holiday mood.  Can't be that many ginger mongerers in HK. Any other thoughts about what makes mongerers so obvious?  Need to watch our body language, be confident and therefore discrete. It's just awkward in the hotel, you feel like everyone is looking at you. I try to call before I get into the lobby now but it doesn't always work because it's too cold in Toronto during the middle of winter to have your hands out making a call. It really sucks when the WG doesn't answer the first couple of times and your finger falls off...

#11 Post at 20-2-2010 17:16  Profile P.M.  Font size: S M L Reply #6 JeSun's post I did something similar years ago.  I was with 2 buddies taking the minibus to Mongkok to check out the redlight district.  I shouted 'Shanghai Street' to the driver to drop us off there.  My friends were embarrassed as everyone looked at us with a smirk.  My friends wanted to get off somewhere else and walk back to Shanghai Street. PS: Shanghai Street at day is the street full of dedicated of electrical, hardware, plumbing suppliers.  But at night, all the pink, yellow lights come on to all the brothels in the area plus the freelancers cruising the street.  Was a notorious red-light district, now just a pale of itself.

Can't say I ever noticed anyone loitering in front of hotels looking "suspicious", but I haven't really been looking. If you go to some of the locations in the New Territories, you will often be the only white guy in the whole neighborhood. I've always felt that anyone noticing me leaving the street to enter one of the walk-ups can't have many doubts about what I am doing there. I do try and be discrete and not linger too long, but some of the addresses are difficult to locate with out making a couple of passes.

#17 Post at 21-2-2010 11:58  Profile P.M.  Font size: S M L Reply #13 waldo's post I share your sentiments .  One thing I like about Foremost Building is the little Thai restaurant at the top of the stairs and near the lift.  You can have a quick look at the menu and when the lift opens, you can jump inside.  This is my only chance to be slightly discreet in walkups.
