Will take another week to get my Visa cards here, but AMEX was fast. At least I know I can buy dinner at a casino...

You probably know there is a record.  If someone else see it, you might get in trouble.  I have used a credit credit like you once because I didn't have enough money.   One time I was in China in a hotel leaving paying the bill, my card didn't go thur.  I had used it a few times already during my trip.  I was real pissed off.  Lucky I just had enough cash to pay. I told them to take it out of the security deposit on the credit card when I first check in. They said no which I didn't know why. When I got back home, I called the credit card company. They gave a dumb excuse about my card being compromise.  In other words, I think someone got a hold of my credit card number and try to use it.

It's a major pain in the ass since my card has never been misplaced/misused in my many years of having it.

To the old topic... I once lost my MC on the mainland and my US bank overnighted me a new card.  It took about 40 minutes on the phone to verify I really was who I said I was and why I wanted a card sent to China, but I had informed them ahead of time that I would be there, and really they were very helpful.  I don't think they even charged me for it.
