I had a conversation with a buddy of mine recently and he told me something interesting, which I don't know if it's true. It seems that one of his friend's colleague, let's call him MR. A, who was in Shanghai sometime ago, got caught during a police crackdown in the hotel room with 2 escorts / WGs. From my knowledge, these cases are usually solved by bribes. However, the interesting thing in this case was, Mr. A got slapped with a huge fine, got deported back to his country almost immediately and worse of all, his passport was stamped with a seal of some sort, that indicates that he was guilty of solicitation with prostitutes.

This is some serious shit man. I can't imagine what would happen to him when his wife finds the stamp on his passport that leads to the reason for his trip being cut short. I know that prostitution is illegal in China, but this is a tad bit extreme, no? I wonder if the number of escorts he has in the room with him when caught has anything to do with the heavy punishment.

Any bros out there heard of this before? I personally have not been to China or Hong Kong before, but will be going to HK in a few month's time. However, this is seriously freaking me out a little. Any inputs?

Well this trade exists everywhere in the world, but how they punish you will depend on the country.

Hong Kong laws are different to China, but i believe that this is slowly changing since after 1997...

If you were in HK and you tried to bribe your way out, im sure the ICAC will bring you to their HQ and offer you a chat over some infamous coffee.

If you are truly concerned with getting in trouble with the authorities, just head across to Macau and hit the saunas where prostitution is completely fair-game and legal (and safe).

I doubt the authenticity of this story but why doesn't he just rip that page out of his passport if he's so concerned about his wife finding out or better yet tell his wife he lost it and just get a new one.

Yea, I supposed he could do that. I'm not sure of the authenticity of the story either, just wanted to ask if fellow bros out there have heard of anything like this before. I was thinking, if they took the trouble to stamp your passport and have you deported back, they could also very well leave some sort of record on your act of solicitation in their immigration records.

Those measures have been in place for a long time.  Really not that extreme considering you can ditch your passport and pay the fine and no one outside of China would know.  As for the deportation, just tell the missus your business deal went sour with some govt officials or thought you were spying for some news/human rights group and they kicked you out - ppl outside of China very easily accept these types of stories considering how negatively China is portrayed in western media.

A recent development is putting you in jail for a few days which is harder to explain.  

I think what is extreme is how some communities in the West like to print pictures in the daily newspapers of the johns that were caught. - That is extreme!  You would have to leave your region/country.  

Prostitution is safe for the punters in HK and Macau.  Very little chance of being arrested or fine unless you refuse to pay the girl or cause a ruckus.

I believe this is quite true, but really isolated incident and rare, mainly as a result of foes trying to frame the poor dude and tipping the police.

This usually occurs in main city in china where law is more strict.
That is why the Govt concentrated the prostitution haven to Dongguan city. More manageable and will usually get away with bribery.

Printing pictures in the paper rarely happens here in the West. The worst that I've ever seen happen here is they print your name but even that is like you have the worst luck in the world and you must have done something really stupid.

Don't you remember seeing the videos from the Chinese busts on 141 a couple of months back? That was extreme. The dude that kicked down the door held the girl's face up to the camera. That kinda thing would never fly here.

I can say it was the worst nightmare of every hongkongers who are going to China for mongering.

10 years ago the visa for hk and macau people are not the actual red card but a book like a passport.

you got a stamp with the date everytime you are going to China, so your wife can know how many time you went to China, and if you got caught by the police, you got a lovely a red stamp with the word "busted"

all the married men are so happy since the visa change to the red card, easier the cheated their wife

But I'm not sure if got the stamp thing now with the other countries passport.

in Zhuhai area I hear that if you got caught you can either pay 5000rmb (but the price can be different depending on the policemen) or stay 15 days in jail

I've seen this picture of something that was going on to that effect.  It seems that the police are taking more action.  Can anybody explain what happened to get this WG in trouble?

I fully agree! I will monger almost anywhere but not comfortable doing so in Shanghai or Beijing as I can't deal with the consequences.  I'm sticking to HK and Macau as there are so many girls available at good prices compared elsewhere like the US or UK..

I also think it has to do with the language problem.  To bribe effectively, you have to speak the language and know how to bribe.  If they see that you don't know their language or culture, they will not take the risk of taking the bribe from you.  Even though bribery is common place in China, they have to trust you to take the bribe.  If they don't trust you, they won't take it.  They can get into big trouble if the bribe is discovered.
