New York versus Hong Kong-- Where would you live (and why)?

Gentlemen:

I'm blessed with the opportunity to move to HK (and I am currently based in NY).  Everyone I seem to talk to seems bias (and no one I can talk to can account for the biggest factor of why I want to move to HK--CHICKENS!!! ).

Here is my quick list of pros and cons for the various cities:

Hong Kong

Pros

Proximity to Chickens (and just easier to get laid)
More exciting place with more opportunities (even if you're not getting rich, you feel like you always have that chance)
Great fucking food
Did I mention Chickens?
My Son will grow up Chinese (I'm an ABC and it is very hard to grow up Chinese here since we're away from grandparents)
Friends are mostly in HK (lots have moved back because they couldn't make it here)
ADDING THIS:  My wife can't really work in the U.S.  She's going to lose her 6 figure job because she just can't cut it.  She can definitely find a 6 figure job in HK.  This is a big reason why we'd consider moving.

Cons

Small ass and expensive apartment (probably end up paying for a 5k/month USD apartment too)
Bad air
More crowded than NYC
More expensive than NYC
Private School for my Son
No Car (just too expensive)

New York

Pros

I am already here
Own my apartment, no mortgage (comparable housing in HK is much more expensive)
Make more money better career prospects (around 20% more than in HK-- taxes aside)
Much more living space
I get to keep my SUV!

Cons

Food isn't that great (NYC has great food, but I love Chinese and HK is way better)
No Chickens (and no KTV with my friends)
Most of my friends moved back to HK (I miss the weekly KTV trip)
Did I mention chickens?

So friends, please let me know what you think?  I also want a second child.  It is just my wife (and every woman I have ever met) is so fucking irrational, I just prefer chickens.  If I move to HK, I will probably only have one because of the costs.  What does everyone think?

Thanks in advance!

As a punter who likes Chinese girls, moving to HK is a no-brainer.

You can also hop to Macau once in while for the Thai hotties. They especially like the deep pockets of the financial types.

Good luck!

Having lived long term in both, I'd say why not give HK a shot for a couple years?  At the very least you'll give your fam some new experiences, make lots of international job contacts, and most importantly, constantly dine at the all you can eat chicken buffet that is the region.

why do you list so many different cons and pros, what matters to you obviously is the chicken. You need to go to the washroom, run some cold water on your face. You cant be serious here. You want to go back and live in HK because of the chicken?. Yes, mongering is nice and fun. Its a just hobby. You cant base your life decisions on the availability of good chicken You have crossed the line buddy.

The decision to go back to hong kong should depend on first and foremost based on what makes your family happy. But for you, this question would never have came up if it wasnt for the chicken in HK.

you listed putting your son in private school is an con and yet  taking a pay cut, paying expensive rent just for the chicken are somehow justified. I think you need to think about whats really is the most important to you.

If I could, I would move to HK, but all my businesses are here.  So because I am well established and familiar here I have no choice but to stay.  If I had the same resources in HK, I would never come back to NYC.  My main reason would be the racism, and having my kids go through the same racism, except it is not as bad now.

If you want to do it, and it will benefit your family overall then i think you should do it

You will look back and wonder 'what if?' if you don't try it

As for your son, it's an absolute no-brainer. One of the main reasons i want to stay in HK is that it's a lot safer (than the UK in my case) for me and my future children

It's ok if you stay inside MTR and your office/home.

Looking at what you wrote ... sounds like the only reasons for uprooting yourself and your
family is mainly because of prostitutes and better food ???
If one of the cons about moving here is about your budget, just think how much more you'll have to
up that budget with the money you'll be spending on WGs !!!

Stay there and use your hands more !

5k(us dollars) = 40k (Hk dollars)
Depending on where you go and what you define as small, you can get a 900square-3bedroom apartment in a private housing estate with a clubhouse (swimming pool, gym, etc) for under 20k HKD.

HK is not that expensive of a city when it comes to food.

I think you should find a job in New York that give you opportunity to come in Asia for business trip.
If you like the space, HK is not for you.
Come to HK only for the chickens can be good for holidays but moving to HK for that reason is not a good one.

If you can find a very good opportunity that leads you in HK, it would be great but if no, I think you better stay where you are.
You will be better paid and no need to pay for the chicken => you will save more money => you can have another baby.

If you are in finance, it shouldn't be hard to find jobs in HK that pay only a bit less than NYC.

Go and find a job that has an office in HK and will allow you go work in Hk and get paid a US salary.   Have a friend who works for an apparel company that is expanding in China and HK and he easily switched office locations and having a great time in HK and working in an US work environment.  No unpaid overtimes and full benefits.

as a Chinese person, the answer is quite simple - Hong Kong.  The only places worth living in NY would be the Upper East/West Side of Manhattan, out in Long Island, or way out in the boonies.  Everywhere else there's too much riff-raff going on, too much crime to worry about, too much discrimination.  In HK I can live in the most crowded areas such as Mongkok or Shamsuipo and still be comfortable.

A better comparision might be to compare San Francisco with Hong Kong.  That would be a tougher choice.

I am definitely still with my wife, but mostly for my son.  She's always wanted to move to HK because she's from Beijing and wants to live in Asia.  Unfortunately, some of her "financial" type girl friends have had their men stolen by KTV girls.  I'm not joking.  She told me she's changed her mind.  Btw, her career is dead ending in NYC.  Part of the reason for the move is to save her career.  NYC is a racist fucking place.  They fired most everyone who was mainland chinese during the downturn.  Now they are all in China.

It is not that simple.  Friends are mostly in HK, and there is just more opportunity in HK.  White people will always see me as Chinese, but you flash some ivy league credentials in HK and a NY pedigree, doors really open up.I used to work there in my early 20s.
