So, bauku, how was the concert. You did not mention whether it was good, average or boring? Is the older guy in the blue tee shirt with the short hair an original member of TFF?
The opening act Michael Wainwright (Canadian) was very average at best. He sang about six songs accompanied by guitar only. That lasted about 20-25 minutes. After which the lights were turned on and we were all left waiting for another 25 minutes which was very annoying. The crowd started to get restless and started shouting and singing for TFF to appear.
TFF finally appeared and opened with Mad World followed by Everybody Wants to Rule the World. They sang their 80s hits Head over Heels, Sowing the Seeds of Love interspersed with songs from their last album "Everybody Loves a Happy Ending" released in 2004. Curt Smith sang a single from the 90s when he went solo after breaking up with Roland. TFF also did a decent cover of MJ's Billie Jean. Woman in Chains and Shout were saved for the encore.
The guy with the long hair is Roland Orzabal and the older guy is Curt Smith, both original TFF members. Michael Wainwright helped out with the vocals on a few of the songs. I guess RO and CS can't hit the high notes now.
I would rate the concert rather boring as it was just a couple of old guys singing. There were no dancers, special effects etc. Keeping the crowd waiting for such a long time and then only singing for 90 minutes was a bit of a letdown. On the plus side, their voices are still pretty good after all these years. The concert was fairly low budget as they only had a single backdrop, no TV screens, small stage, small band etc. I still rate concerts by MJ, Madonna, Kylie Minogue and Ayumi to be the ones to beat.
