I've purchased computers, mobile phones and expensive handbags as gifts to newbie WGs who I treat more like GFs. We spend lots of time together but HGs are just out there to make as many $$$ from punters as possible. Never take marriage proposals from HGs seriously. I get such proposals all the time from WGs. HGs would treat most punters the same unless you visit them frequently and can connect with them.

Like geoduck said, it only makes sense to show your appreciation if you get to know the girl well, and that she deserves youraffection.

But there's no need to go overboard as they probably make more money than most mongers. As far as marriage/gf proposals, I get asked a fair bit from a few of my regulars. Some just bring it up to tease and to play around. Finally I find the first hit with a WG is usually average. A second or third visit where they recognise you, tends to lead to better treatment (longer clock time, better service). I believe WG prefers regulars rather than one off customers.
