SKYPE on iPone now available over 3G and 2G networks

Have downloaded the update of the iPone SKYPE application over the weekend and for the first time I can call anyone on SKYPE using 2G and 3G and the connection was surprisingly good. For SKYPE Plus where you dial landlines the reception was good on 3G but kept on breaking up when using 2G. The application is still free to use until August 10th when I think SKYPE will start charging a monthly fee for this service.

I'm waiting for when Skype is available on the iPad.  Actually, I should download the app for the iPhone and see if it'll work with iPad.

To the best of my knowledge, the iPhone app will work on the iPad.

is correct that you need to have an internet connection for skype, so that it is not a good option for overseas travel because you pay for internet thru the nose if its 3g.

You can now use SKYPE over 3G networks. If you use roaming to make local calls with 3G this will still be a quarter less than calling long distance while roaming. You can also purchase a local 3G sim card, divert all your calls to this number. This would still equate to a big saving on roaming charges.

Just updated skype also. This is actually sounds good on 3g. I just hope that AT&T's 3g banwidth won't get super congested because of this. Just imagine everyone doing this... AT&T better upgrade their 3g network to support this. But for now, it's working great.

I have tried the new SKYPE App on 2G in China and it cracks up a lot. In China with a 3G network it works flawlessly. Another update of the SKYPE app will be out on August 10th and this will improve the performance over 2G networks but then the new version would not be free.
