Street walking halved as sex moves to web

Looks like Sweden and Norway needs to go on everyones do not visit list. A criminal charge could effect your ability to get a visa.

Street walking halved as sex moves to web

STOCKHOLM: A Swedish law that punishes the buying of sex has halved street prostitution, but the country is still facing a growing problem of sex sold over the internet, a report says.
''The evaluation shows that the ban on the purchase of sexual services has had the intended effect and is an important instrument in preventing and combating prostitution and human trafficking for sexual purposes,'' says the report, which was handed to the Justice Minister, Beatrice Ask, on Friday. It maintained that prostitution in Sweden had not increased since the ban took effect in 1999.
While the law punishing the client rather than the prostitute may not have caused a dramatic drop in prostitution as a whole, its true triumph, the report says, is that ''street prostitution in Sweden has been halved''.

''This reduction may be considered to be a direct result of the criminalisation of sex purchases,'' it says.
Before Sweden became the first country to criminalise buying sex, the number of street prostitutes in its capital was on a par with the capitals of neighbouring Norway and Denmark.
Norway introduced similar legislation to Sweden's on January 1, 2009.
The Swedish law stipulates that ''purchasing a sexual service on one single occasion is sufficient for criminal liability'', whether with money or other means such as alcohol or drugs.
But while cracking down on sex purchasers on the street has paid off, the report acknowledges that prostitution in other more hidden and obscure areas is hard to assess and limit.
The internet especially constitutes a new and dangerous arena, allowing sex to be sold ''in secret'' and purchasers to remain ''fairly invisible''.

Yeah. Street walkers are definetly discouraged by governments all over the world. All it does is deface the image of the city/country. The street walkers dont pay tax on their income, have public sex, drugs, rubbish, violence etc etc Its best to keep them off the street. This was the fundamental problem with sweden in 1999 thats why they introduced the ban.

Here's a video interview with the authors of the criminalising clients of prostitutes bill, unsurprisingly the government ministers pushing this along are middle aged women, who are trying to extend this throughout Europe. Also successful prosecution results in 6 months jail which they're attempting to increase to 12 months, not just a fine as I has assumed.

Sweden is the birth place of modern hardcore porn, Private celebrated their 40th anniversary only a year or two ago. I'll bet there's no clamp down on the porn industry, even though porn is prostitution by a different name. Politicians in any country remain the second biggest hypocrites.

You don't know what your talking about the bill is about criminalising men who solicit prostitutes. If you support that, then what the hell are you doing on this forum.

no, it actually quite nice over here in Sweden. You cant find better looking blondes in any other country. If you must buy sex there is always our neighbour denmark or latvia, where it is legal.

Prohibition never works though.

The problem with sweden and all of the Nordic states are they are client states the taxes are appaullingly high yet the benefits are just as high so the public always vote for the same government to keep the status quo.

It won't win popular support outside nordic (virtual) commuinist states though as the governments there get changed regularly and people do vote differently.

Hariet Harman for instance has had a massive vendetta against men for the past 13 years, the Uk public eventually told her to go fuck herself by voting her out and for change something which doesn't happen in the nordic states ever due to the client state.

Harman was so fucking damaging and so biased, men who had been tricked by their partners into paying child support for children which after taking DNA tests were not THEIRS were still compelled to pay child support and had no right to get any money back... And the fact that she put in a law meaning women who cried rape had this expunged off their records meaning a woman could cry rape 100s of times but this fact was never told to the cops or the courts.
