Main advantage of new iPhone is speed. Well have to see if FaceTime catches on. Both people need to be on wifi for it to work.   There is a huge image thing going on that those who have the new phone are admired.

This is a serious fault. Apple has good support and may change all these defective units. Don't think any software update would be able to fix this problem. It is obviously a fault in the design.

Seems there will be a quickfix iOS 4.01 to fix the antenna reception issue.

The way people are lined up for it and already you would think if the problem was really bad the outcry would be bigger than it is.

First generation anything is going to have issues, the iPhone 4 is worth it unless the Droid2 makes it's appearance soon.

That iPhone 4 total recall is ... total nonsense
SAMUEL AXON
June 28, 2010 - 11:01AM
This post was originally published on mashable.com.
Britain's Daily Mail reported Sunday that an iPhone 4 recall was underway, but don't believe it. The UK publication's source was a tweet from a fake Steve Jobs Twitter account. Apple hasn't announced any plans to recall its new phone.
The Twitter account @ceoSteveJobs is a parody account — it even says so in the profile bio, and even if you don't read the bio, it should have been obvious from the tweets, which include lines like "Be careful not to leave your #iPhone4 at the Genius Bar on the way out of the store. Gizmodo might pick it up," and "I heard the CEO of AT&T got married recently. The service was great but the reception was terrible."
The Daily Mail has pulled the original story, which began with a claim that a recall was coming and a quote from the fake Twitter account, and then continued to explain the issues users have had with signal loss when the iPhone 4 is held a certain way.
It's hard to imagine that Apple didn't know about the signal issue. The engineers at the company probably decided it was a worthwhile trade-off for otherwise improved reception, so don't expect a recall for that reason.
Though you might surprised that The Daily Mail ran a story based on a tweet from an account that is so obviously fake, it's not the first time something like this has happened. That's why Twitter implemented a system for verifying the accounts of important people and publications.

What is the wrong way to hold it.  The phone and the os4 need some kind of instructions so you know what buttons to push to do all the things the phone is capable of.

i think the iphone4 will be good for browsing the 141 sites.. but not for downloading photos...

the resolution of the screen is really high!!! you just need to add one of those privacy filters!! haha.. actually on my windows mobile phone i used to use two layers of privacy filter... at right angles to each other !!! much more private

Sorry I know this posting will be of no use to the many non-Australian members of the forum but for the rest of us, this could justify the cost of buying an iphone. The potential savings in fines could be substantial.

Bye bye fines: app helps drivers beat parking cops
ASHER MOSES
June 29, 2010 - 1:51PM
Councils say there is nothing they can do about a new mobile app that drivers in Australian capital cities are using to skirt parking meter fees and fines.
ParkPatrol, developed by Sydney-based software developer Crwdpower, sends alerts to iPhone and, soon, Google Android mobile users when a parking officer is near their car.
People who have the app on their phones can with one button report the locations of parking officers they see in the street. The server then cross-checks incoming reports with all the checked-in parked cars on its database, and sends instant text alerts to drivers when a report comes within 200 metres of a parked car.

A spokeswoman for the Local Government and Shires Associations of NSW said that as technology advances, the creation and use of applications such as ParkPatrol are "essentially unavoidable". She advised users to "consider both the legality and reliability" of the application.
"Councils issue parking fines to manage traffic, ensure local roads remain safe and encourage a greater level of parking space turnover in areas of high demand," the spokeswoman said.
"The reality is that if people park their cars legally and adhere to rules set on local streets, there would be no need for applications like this."
The City of Sydney council and its Lord Mayor, Clover Moore, declined to comment.
The developers released the app worldwide but say takeup has been strong throughout Sydney and other Australian capital cities.
"Some [Sydney] suburbs, such as Surry Hills, Darlinghurst and the CBD have become very active reporting communities," Crwdsource said in an emailed statement.
"With this high level of activity, an alarm to your parked car is 95 per cent accurate and most certainly means an officer is nearby."
The free app uses push notifications so is able to send an alarm to users even when the app is not active on their phone. It takes two clicks to check in when users have parked their car, and the app will show them where their car is on a map and also the time remaining until the parking meter expires.
The developers say all parking locations and privacy reports are private and contain no personally identifiable information. They say no information is shared with third parties.

With iphone4 the app world is going to be alot better. The time to load apps on older versions is to long, making the less useful.  With the speed iphone4 offers and the multitasking it's going to be interesting the things that come out.
