According to Apple the front and back panels are made of a new aluminosilicate glass, said to be 30 times harder than plastic and as tough as the “unscratchable” sapphire crystal used for watch faces. Both have an oil-resistant coating aimed at keeping dirt and fingermarks at bay.

I expected more from the 4g. I mean 5mp, wtf. They might aswell get a vga camera, the apple fanatics will still defend it.
Ok, it has a front camera, for what? when was the last time you had video ca ...

i do agree, nokia came out with the 5mp camera on one of their cell phones (n95) even before apple was selling iphones. but you do have to give them some props for being one of the first with 720p video.

The difference is quality. The Iphone 3gs 2MP camera was always far superior to many others. And with the 4g the screen has a much higher resolution, and seeing some sample pics online, the photos taken by the iphone 4 look really good, just what a mobile device needs.

In this day and age, I can't believe people are still talking about how many megapixels a phone camera can produce... Don't people realise anything beyond 2.1 MB is irrelevant given the size of a phone's lens? OK, some might argue that they want to print larger sizes, such as posters, but if that's the intention, they really shouldn't be using a phone cam! It's lens size, shutter response, and write speeds that should be the main concerns when comparing phone cameras.

As for the front camera, it will be immensely useful for taking pics with WGs... no more guessing if you've framed the shot correctly!

But I would like a comparable droid too!

iPhone4 is very attractive.
I am wondering what the price is when it is available in Hong Kong.

Murphy's law... I'll give it 2-3 months before Google responds with something crazy. Regardless I'm a mac whore so I'll be picking this bad boy up when it comes out in Canada. I'm reallly curious as to what they will do for the Iphone 4s though.

HK$7,800 is way too much but is expected. Will rather wait till Christmas and by then, I'm sure they'll have a 32G version available without the crazy premium.

Or if you have relatives or friends, get them from the US without the contract, comes to about 5000 RMB or more which is alright.

Are you saying in HK already have it in stock the 4G because the first release is in the USA / Europe on June 22 or 24 is when you can buy one. Furthermore, you have to pre-order at the Apple Store and prehaps pay in advance.

One guy in China wanted me to get in 4 to 6, 3 GS Iphone last year. It was too much trouble.

I am sure in a few months a cheap clone will come out from China.

Apple and ATT will not sell you a phone without a contract and data plan. The break down:

1. Cost of 4G phone about $200 or 300 USD
2.  Tax                 18 to 20
3. Data plan                   30 a month

4. Phone service             47 a month  including tax

I heard one person said he has insurance for the 3 GS phone. He claimed he lost the phone and sold it in China.  ATT got him a new phone.

I was told people had the data plan for a 3-5 months and stopped it. Canceled their contract and sold the 3 GS Iphone.  I talked with a sales person from ATT. They told me it will put a mark on your credit report if you break your 2 yr contract. If you want service from them in the future, they might refuse / reject you. If you break the 2 yr contract there is a termination fee.

You could wait until next year when the 5G comes out to pick up a 4G. It will never end with upgrades to get your money.

EDIT:

Strange, it seems like this website is saying a contract is not necessary.

‘No commitment’ pricing [as mentioned on AT&T’s website] for iPhone 4G which is $599 for 16GB version and $699.for 32GB version.

The price is probably for the US version of the iPhone 4G. There are some early adoptors who are willing to pay the premium to be one of the first ones to own the phone in Hong Kong - bragging rights. When we get near the HK launch date then the price will drop like a stone.

Given that the iPhone 4G will be available in HK in July then the price will dramatically drop until the official HK release.

Remember the iPad 3G 64GB version is currently being sold for HKD10K on the HK grey market!!!

I hope prices in Canada are going to be as reasonable as they are in the US for upgrades.  The last time the 3GS came out they were backordered for 4-6 weeks.

16G for HK$7,800 is not a reasonable price.
Better wait for the offical release in Hong Kong.

Bros who are considering the 4G, Smartone and 3 will be launching the 4G in July.
Those who are thinking about purchasing from the grey market may want to reconsider.

Expect it to be around the same price as when it came out from 3.
2 year contract around with prepayments

im pretty sure if you break a contract with AT&T they only charge you a termination fee.  there is not mark on your credit report unless you fail to pay off your account and it goes into collections.

BTW AT&T raised their Early Termination Fee to $325.
