$25 sounds about right for a sushi meal for one person where you can get enough to fill up on. You must think something is wrong with sushi in NYC. Isn't all sushi, even in japan, deep frozen to kill microbes and bacteria.

surprised that Paris @ France is not on the top 10 listing.

i remember that living cost is higher then New York about 2001.

For NYC you may found some place cheaper but not in Paris.

Haha, to think of it I don't think I've ever tried Sushi in NYC in all my time there, weird now that I think about it.

there are great places for sushi in NY.  I would generally avoid sushi on Sunday & Mondays in NY.  If you want exotic sushi here, it will cost more bc its shipped right away from japan.

Anybody notice price deflation in most expensive cities given the sad state of the global economy.   Are there any predictions of what costs will be over te next several years.

Trying to get a monkey to read the tea leaves would be just as good as the so called experts predictions. It's anyone's guess at this point.

the whole financial meltdown proves the point you just made.  the experts thought they were that much smarter than everyone else, and being smarter allowed them to make all the right decisons.  also hear now that some expect so called massive inflation, but that has not materialized in the face of all the stimulus.  and it has had time to work through the monetary system.  so know with stimulus pretty much on the sidelines and belt tightening, ie, higher taxes and deficit reduction, it looks like there will be low inflation--but you are right nobody can predict it

For every proclaimed smarter person that made the right decision, I'm sure I could find another self proclaimed smarter person that did not make the right decision.

Just a short tangent.

I found plenty of cheap food in tokyo. Tons of little ramen/curry/udon shops you throw in some coins to a machine, get a ticket, go inside and get your food from the chef.

Although mid-high tier food was more expensive than SF per say, quality was higher too.

Alth ...

Yes, Ramen / udon is cheap in Japan.  In the USA it's about 15 cents a bag.  Try eating sea food in Japan.  You will die from after looking at the bill.

the price of beer and sake is supposed to be reasonable so a liquid diet sounds possible.
