2. "National outrage" is a national sport in Thailand. Save face by pretending to be shocked that there are nudie shows or prostitution or whatever. Land of lies, scams, and pretense; everyone knows what's going, but everyone has to pretend to be shocked by it. Don't fall into the trap of thinking that they are actually shocked in any way. The big boys who pretend to be shocked are making money from prostitution/raunch in all its forms.

3. No one quite knows what "Thai" ethnicity is anyway. There's the whole can of worms about Chinese mix Thais, blah blah.... and I have friends who claim to be 100% ethnically Thai, but look more or less Caucasian.

4. And yes, the women in these calendars are the Thai beauty standard. They look quite different from the "Thai girls" admired by the gweilo crowd. Another can of worms!

anyway, the controversy abt this calendar is partly because the Thai Alcohol Control Act prohibits advertising in a way that encourages drinking.
and this calendar broke that law.

but the REAL reason why it's controversial is that 200 copies of the calendar were distributed at the Government House..
and many MPs, officials, police snapped them up in minutes!

how & why were they distributed?
because the heiress of SINGHA (parent company of LEO) works at the Prime Minister's office...

There seems to constantly be rumours of a new politician looking to clean up Thailand's image and crack down on the bars... Not much ever seems to change, though.
