...The Numbers, Keynote and Pages you have to pay for at US$9.99 each. Keynote's good if you need it, Pages also but Numbers really suck, worse even than the desktop version.

I recommend you get the Good Reader where you can load your PDF files into your iPad. The best PDF reader out there and cost I think $1.99 or 3.99 (?), this is a must. Also download Kindle books and Free Books apps, both free...

GD, when you download apps for the iPad, do you access iTunes directly from your iPad or through your Mac?

You can do both. There is an App Store icon on the iPad. Not sure whether you have an account in your country of residence for the iTunes store. If you don't I could give you some suggestions on how to go around it.

Actually DaBest, I would not suggest this. It's a great app but free for a reason. I downloaded it and played avi on my iPad. In many instances the file avi did not play at all and when it did, it was shaky and then crashed over and over again. Best to convert the video yourself then loaded into iTunes for transferring to your iPad.

Yes, had meant converting it to the mp4 format.  AVI files are large and the processor in the iPad does have a problem playing them. I use VUZE to download movies and TV series which are in avi format and then convert the avi directly to mp4 for iPad or Apple TV in VUZE.

It takes about 5-10 mins to convert a full length movie of about 1GB. Think this is acceptable and not much degradation in the quality when viewed on the computer and iPad.

hmmm... thats not too bad.. was thinking of converting my 200GB movie collection for iPad, guess i have to do it selectively first.

how to transfer the converted movies to iPad, GD? through iTunes? add to iTunes library and synch to iPad? or is there an easier way to transfer? as i dont want the movies in my iTunes directory on my Macbook

For the iPad, the only way is to get the movies onto the playlist in iTunes. You first convert the movie if its on a DVD using a free software called Handbrake, http://handbrake.fr/. From there you have to sync this in iTunes. With the software you had recommended, CineXplayer, you did not need to sync this into the iTunes playlist but then it didn't really work for avi movies. Let me try and see if it works better with mp4 movies. Will report back shortly.

Yes, by unchecking sync videos in iTunes the videos you already have on the iPad would remain there. This is a good work around. However, once you've deleted the movies in iTunes and check the sync video button again in iTunes, the videos would be deleted on the iPad.
