I use mine for everything frankly.  Email, notes, games, watch movies, music, journal.  I have a netbook too, but honestly I can get out my ipad and have it running faster than I could even boot my netbook (even the one running linux).  It's just become so handy that I carry it with me everywhere.

Had my new iPad for only 2 days and find it great. However, spoke to a friend in manufacturing in China and he confirmed that Apple is already working on a new model with a bigger screen and camera and more functionality.  This new model could be announced as early as October and make it for Christmas. This is a bummer for consumers who just bought the iPad.

Isn't the screen big enough. After awhile the utility of it being compact will dissipate.

depends what you are doing with it.

I tried out the 'word processor' where it displays the keyboard for typing. For me, it feels like a small laptop sized keyboard, better than some netbooks, but you need the magic 'touch' since it is touch screen..

I did buy the Apple bluetooth keyboard.  I know that doesn't sound like it makes sense, but I only use it when I have a lot of typing to do.  Otherwise I just use the on screen keyboard.  But if you're going to have an app where you expect to be doing a lot of typing it can be helpful to have that keyboard.  The best part is that it's very light and my ipad with the keyboard still weigh less than my netbook.

Sounds like people don't really take the iPad to work with them. Business use soundslike traveling so you don't have a bulky machine.   It is better than the iPhone screen size wise if you need to read something.  But mostly it is for recreation.

yes mostly recreation. also i also got the airport express wifi device, so i can plug that into the hotel broadband and use my ipad instead of having to bring my macbook. a lot of hotels still dont offer wifi in the room.

Dabest, I have now had the iPad for nearly 2 weeks. It's a great device and could aid in work if you need to carry around your files. However, you can not do any real work with it because it does not have multitasking. I also downloaded the apps Pages, Keynote and Numbers which is equivalent to Microsoft's Word, Powerpoint and Excel. Pages and Keynote are good but not really that powerful. You can skip Numbers altogether as it sucks and very incompatible with Excel. I shall try out Documents to Go.

Useful apps to buy is Reeder and getting iBooks and Kindle software is a must. Not much of a gamer myself but games look great on the iPad.

GD, are Pages, keynote and Numbers free? i use them on my Macbook, and i agree Numbers suck, and takes too long to load. I had to pay for iWork (as they called it then) for my Macbook, not sure if its free on the iPad?

Hey DaBest, I missed your earlier post. Did you get your iPad yet? I am now in Singapore and got this M1 micro sim card and it's cheap here. Only SGD32 per month for unlimited usage (had to get a Singaporean to apply for me, otherwise for foreigners it's SGD20 for only 1GB).

The Numbers, Keynote and Pages you have to pay for at US$9.99 each. Keynote's good if you need it, Pages also but Numbers really suck, worse even than the desktop version.

I recommend you get the Good Reader where you can load your PDF files into your iPad. The best PDF reader out there and cost I think $1.99 or 3.99 (?), this is a must. Also download Kindle books and Free Books apps, both free.

DaBest, Think harold is only referring to watching movies on your iPad. It's the same with the iPhone. Convert your movie into mp4 format and transfer them to iTunes under movies. You can then sync these to your iPad. If you have DVDs, download this free software called Handbrake and convert your DVD into mp4.

That's a silly question. It would be obvious that if you are not a regular subscriber then mobile services would costs more. The same applies when you buy a local mobile sim card, right?
