Those seats look absolutly riddiculas. They are even to tight for small people. Just look at the picture with 3 small guys. I cant see them ever using these seats unless its on a domestic china flight but they better hurry because the Chinese are getting fatter too.

Always wondered

I've always wondered - why the airlines wouldn't think about stacking up flat beds.  I mean, they cud design 6 or even 7 layers one on top of the other with enough room to roll in.
4 economy seats are at least 6 ft across; if the airline use this same area one on top of the other, you'd end up with at least 6 "spaces" -all beds!

And 2 rows of 4 across seats could probably accomodate 3 rows of 6 up and down - so its 4 seats versus 18 beds!  Each of which they probably cud sell for more than just ordinary economy seats - especially long haul flights!

Somebody hire me to work for an airline!!

Safety reasons, for take off and landing people need to be sitting up.

That's not true - at least it wasn't when I traveled First Class on Japan Airlines on an actual bed (yes, I'm dating myself -that had at least been 20 years ago.)

Soon as I got on the plane I slipped into a kimono and laid down - and the stewardess then just strapped me in for the take off in my bed - even though I also had a seat downstairs.

But I guess things may have probably changed since then.

But I don't see the safety issue if the "beds" (or more accurately probably "bunks") I'm thinking of becomes an actual capsule.  I'm thinking these capsules are 6 feet long, 2 feet wide with a height of also 2 feet - thus the airline coud stack up to 6 or even 8 in the middle row and of course probably a bit less on the sides.  All enclosed on 3 sides and with straps to keep you in.

Are any of you guys willing to sit ( perch ) on these seats for cheaper flights?

I mean flights are uncomfortable enough already in economy class, do we really need to make them unbearable?

I would  ...

Depends on the price. Round trip form LA to Vegas is about 300USD. If they can cut it down to 100 or so I would be willing to try it. It's only 30 minutes. I've been in much worse mass transit situations in HK or Shanghai.

"I'm thinking of becomes an actual capsule."

Somehow when I read this, coffin comes to mind.

Why is it then that airlines insist your seat is upright on take off and landing?
Is it perhaps more to do with keeping the walk ways clear than the optimal crash position?

Yeah - I guess it would have the same dimensions as a coffin the way Iimagine it - but with one side open and stacked 6 high

Cain't see what the safety issue wud be then.
