i think it's all about the trend - when you saw many and many ppl using it, you will be "out" if you are still not its "fans".

I have been looking at buying the iphone 4 too. But its stupidly expensive.. you can get a decent laptop or a washing machine and fridge for that money!

Anyway, I'm a bit confused as I have seen that ...

Don't think you can have as much fun with a washing machine or a fridge and most people already have these plus a laptop. An alternative is to get a second hand iPhone 3Gs but nothing beats the iPhone 4 if you wanna have some fun

Yes, I've considered the iphone 3gs but its only 3megapixel and not as cool as the i4.

I heard you can convert the ipod touch to a phone using a chip. I haven't come across this yet in hk and may investigate in hua keung bei in shenzhen. Its significantly cheaper than a 3gs or i4, but again the camera on the back is worse with only vga quality.

Actually its called the Apple Peel 520. You need a jailbroken iPod Touch in order to convert it to an iPhone.

Thanks for the info, but the thing on the back looks ugly. Kinda like those oversized rubber covers. Oh well, I guess I'd just save up the money and get the real thing. A few less punts per month should ought to do it.

The possibilities are endless on the iphone4.  It does not seem that people who have it can use it to the max. For example, it has multitasking--how often has anyone actually used that?

Is a third-party case scratching up or even cracking your iPhone 4?

Tech blog gdgt reported Thursday that some slide-on, third-party cases can cause scratches or cracking on the iPhone 4, so Apple pulled them from its retail and online stores. The cases re-appeared online this week, but are still missing from stores, gdgt wrote.

"Internally, I've heard the iPhone team has grown to be very concerned by this issue with slide-on cases, and has created a lab and large new test program specifically to investigate this further," according to the post.

As a result, many iPhone case manufacturers are in limbo, waiting to see if they can get their products back into Apple stores.

Apple did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

The report comes months after "Antennagate." Following the release of the iPhone 4, customers experienced connectivity issues when gripping the device in a certain way. As a solution, Apple provided free bumpers to iPhone 4 buyers until Sept. 30, which alleviated the problem.

The comments on the gdgt post ranged from those who had experienced their own iPhone 4 scratching and cracking problems to those who said concerns were overblown.

"I'm on my second iPhone 4. The glass on the first one shattered after it dropped about 4 inches out of my pocket onto the ground," wrote one reader.

Another person, however, said the article was "a story in search of a problem," while a third said simply that "phones get scratches and glass can break."

PCMag security analyst Neil Rubenking has been using a third-party case for his iPhone 4. He took a few snapshots (above) of the device this morning, and found the smartphone no worse for the wear. Reporter Leslie Horn found the same thing on her phone.

For what it's worth, my own iPhone 4 - which is housed in a free Apple bumper - has been dropped several times on a wood floor with no cracking or breaking. There are two, barely visible scratches on the back, but I chalk that up to daily wear and tear.

I was also looking at the n8 too the other day at Three.

The biggest draw card is the 12mp camera on the back of the phone which supposedly takes digi cam quality photo's. I'm still waiting for the review at gsmarena but I suspect it might do well as cmos is 1/1.9inch as opposed to 1/2.5inch in the Satio, Pixon12, N86. As a comparison the canon SD3500 & 4000 digicams cmos size is 1/2.3inch. But then the lens and processing algorithms would be alot better in a true digicam.

It is cheaper at $3980 retail, but I've been dissapointed with nokia's of late. My last two nokia's went into the service centre 6 times!! I got so pissed off I sold it even before the contract period was over.

Anyway, I think the Apple has a better user interface. I have used Symbian's in the past and its just not as fun or quick as Apples UI.

Nokia N8 may have a 12MP camera but tests show that the iPhone4 takes better pictures and videos. It's all in the software. Check out the following link for comparison tests:

Seems like your right! Straight out the camera the iphone colours are more vibrant and saturated. While the nokia is a bit muted. I guess the more reason to get an iphone4 then.

If its a software problem then I suppose it gives nokia a chance to sell an improved/updated version next summer called the n8-S !

Yes I read HTC will be releasing Windows Mobile 7 on HD3 phone. So its iphone4 vs android 2.2 vs Win 7 mobile. Decisions Decisions... I wonder how it stacks up against the other two.

I find I'm changing my mobile every 6-8 months and its not just because I'm chasing the latest and greatest. But the damn thing develops problems and I'm forced to let it go. And I'm not talking about the crappy china brands. I'm talking about big brands like nokia and se.

Bro Harolda, I know what you mean the price is much higher than offerings from nokia and se.... but going by the popularity alone it probably won't start dropping till after christmas

I find I'm chan ...

i know what you mean, but if seems a bit too fast need to change a phone after 6-8 mths. i think maybe at the end we better just use those simple 2G phones which can last longer.

and i read news saying Apple is planning for iphone 5 now...

What?! Iphone 5! By the time I've saved up enough for the i4 its going to be an old model.
But yeah your right I miss the good old days of a phone you just made calls and sms and has a key pad.

Anyway, I'm currently leaning towards an android based phone from htc and see what the fuss is about. Seems alot cheaper than the i4 and with the change you can get another phone as backup.

I just read the latest review on win 7 mobile and its not as good as the latest offerings from android 2.2 and i4OS.

Kinda dissapointed in that there's quite alot thats missing from win7 mob.

Has apple come up with a fix for their "grip of death" problem besides saying that you should put a case on it? It's not the money. But out of principle it's hard to pay for an expensive phone that has reception problems just because you hold it "wrong".
