Who will buy iphone4 and why?

I try to analyze the reasons to and not to buy iPhone4

To:
HD video
Talk of the town
Trendy
Sharp screen

Not to:

Wait for iPhone4s
Not necessary
Can't determine 16g or 32g, and 32g is far more expensive
Reception problem
HEavy or too large

But when it comes to buying hi tech products, usually is irrational

don't do it man. u know Apple will just come out with an improved version same time next year. they do so every year. the reason I'd advise against it is because of the notorious problems with the reception. I realize u can never catch up with technology. IMO, it's better to just wait until next year until they get all that reception bullshit sorted out. plus, they're overcharging way too much for it at the moment.

I went into a shop to get a feel of it and it feels bigger than the Nexus one...I'm still undecided too, didnt feel the urge to get it due to the reception problem but many ppl have said it is just due to ATT network in US...

My company ordered an iphone 3gs when i got back a month and a bit before, never had any apple equipment before so thought id give it a go...then iphone4 came out and they ran out of stock for 3gs!!

So theyre compensating me with an iphone4. Personally dont knowwhat the big fuss is, as long as i can check emails, sms and call ppl im fine. Wouldve preferred an htc or sony ericsson

The reason i am gonna buy an iphone4 is cause my phone is 2 generations back, so to make the leap would be worthwhile. Probably if I was a little smarter I would get an android phone of some sort, but then again I like to stick with what I am familiar with.

I would not consider getting the new iPhone as I've already got the 3G and very satisfied with the Blackberry. The deathgrip problem with the reception is also a concern. I just bought the iPad and must say it's great because it's different. Am typing this on the iPad now. Great virtual keyboard.

there really is no reason for u to upgrade to the iphone 4 if u already have a 3GS. I'd say it's only worthwhile if u have an ipgone 3G or older model.

The iphone4 is faster than the older models.  That is not to say that it does not not get caught up when it has bad reception.  It simply is a better phone. The reception issue gets various responses but in reality it is not bad.

Well I don't know about the actual phone part being simply better

But for all other things not phone related such as web browsing, camera, video etc, it's improved lol. The main issues being the reception part, which ironicly is the important phone part!

my buddy picked one up but had to wait 5.5 hrs for it.  Loved it as he was upgrading from a 3g.  I initially had my doubts as I was quite satisfied with my 3gs but after playing around with his I'm quite tempted.

I have a 3gs and my buddy has the 4g and they both feel the same in weight and size the only true difference bwt the 2 is the higher res screen and camera in the front.  The processors felt about the same in terms of speed on loading applications even though the 4g has the faster proc.  I would say if you have the 3g then the 4g is definitely worth the upgrade but if you have a 3gs i wouldn't do it.

Sounds about right.  The diff between 3GS and 4 does not make a reason to buy.  On the other hand it just is a good feeling to be up on the technology with the best I class.  At 200 bucks upgrade in the US it is not really a big decision.

I've sent my iPhone 4 back!  I already have a 3g and a BB, use the BB mainly for work and messaging and use the 3g for monging as the browser is great and I can use any old sim witha data plan.  Went for the 4 as the battery was supposed to be so much better, processor fast and reception better.
The Battery died by 2 in the afternoon on 2 occasions after a full charge overnight and even with out doing the death grip on the antennae it was picking up a weaker signal than the BB. To top it off it has this ridiculously small sim card that meant it would not be as easy to pop a different sim in ( I regularly  stay in different countries for 2 or 3 weeks and a pre-paid simis the best way) Seems to be a case of form over function again from apple so I've ditched it ( bought on web so have the ability to bounce it back for a full refund) and decided to spend part of the money on an iPad as a fun toy ( I don't hate apple I just think they con us sometimes and I hate fan boys who think every thing apple is faultless) and a bit of it on a new back and battery for my old 3g to make it look like new again..

Disappointing really, I wanted to like it.

As to the original question, Fan Boys will buy it because they are stupid.  Fashion sheep will buy it for the same reason, they won't even know how to use it though.  It does have an excellent browser, screen and email ability though so many people will buy for the right reason I just hope charging regularly fits into their life style.  Funny thing is I bought my original as a sheep really, I thought people looked cool with them, these days I quite like it for the reasons stated above but find it faintly embarrassing.

Now I'm sure there is a new Blackberry out .........

They had a recent poll about customer loyalty to the 3 major smartphone Operating Systems: Apple, Blackberry and Andriod. Apparently the Blackberry had only a 42% retention rate, while Apple garnered the most loyalty from customers.

I'm personally on a iphone, I love the software itself, but I am frustrated with the unreliability of dropped calls (iphone and carrrier issues) here in Canada, and also the sync with iTunes sometimes deletes important information on such as caller information.

Blackberry is highly recommended for those who want more privacy in there life, as the iPhone is built around the everyday consumer, whereas those who have things to hide have abit more power in security and privacy.

Always thought bb better from a business use standpoint.  The email on a bb is much better than iPhone.  Cannot compare really. Surprising why bb could not get it's hands around Internet, screen and mostly apps.  The first apps like mapping worked pretty well o bb.  Seems that rim missed the boat as they were clearly market leaders for a long time.

those surveys should clarify who the target market is, and not just grab people off the street. the BB is hands down winner forbusiness users, the iPhone does not even come close. the iPhone is hands down winner for the consumer-oriented users, those who dont need their email 24/7.

it is not accurate to talk retention rate without clarifying the nature of the users surveyed. i have both phones, and i only use the iphone on weekends, would never use it during the work week. i use the BB on the work week and bring an ipod for music.

I'm sure RIM doesn't pay too much attention to such surveys, as I'm assuming they would just poll anyone signs up for one of the phones at kiosk, booth or store. Since most are everyday users anyways.

I do think the apps are what's really lagging behind for the Blackberry.

Well there is mention that RIM is going to launch a new OS for their smartphones pretty soon, perhaps to freshen up their image as a hip phone as well as oppose to being just a business device.

only reason i would consider upgrading to a iphone4 from my 3gs is only because i like to keep updated on my equipment, but to me i don't see any big reason to upgrade especially since i barely got my 3gs back in nov 2009 and not even a year later here comes the iphone4. im tired of letting these companies trying to get us to get the newest product that they come out with. it's hard to always keep updated on the latest and greatest, but anyways as long as my phone does what i need it to do (call, text, go online, and take pics) then i'm fine.
