China bans SKYPE

LOL, what a joke, China bans SKYPE.  Another way of keeping the money in the country by forcing people to use china unicom and china mobile.  This is the same reason they banned facebook, youtube, twitter.. etc.

yup, i sure can.  This ban of skype is pretty dumb, might as well ban msn, aim, qq, whats the difference.  China isn't really open, its just as closed as ever, just with a modern approach.

I don't think the ban has been enforced yet.

We use Skype a lot for business because, as far as we know, it's almost impossible to eavesdrop on Skype communications.  I don't think the same can be said for other VoIP services.

Perhaps that's why China are banning them, because it's much easier to ban it than to crack it

Security could be  a reason why China is banning Skype. Like how India and UAE wanted to ban Blackberry a few months ago cos they didn't allow security agencies to eavesdrop on the Blackberry communication channels.

I was in China yesterday afternoon again and SKYPE functioned fine. SKYPE chat was operating even via my mobile phone (iPhnoe 4). On that note, does anyone know if there's a SKYPE application for the Blackberry?

According Skype...
there is no ban now and from reading the news I get the impression it might be more the commercial aspect to protect chinese (state owned) companies.
And skype.tom.com seemed to have security issues, so I gues it is not too difficult to hack the accounts...

Using skype as a phone it is really much cheaper than phone calls (http://skype.tom.com/products/en/)...
