I had a dsicussion with my western colleagues on this topic once. The conclusion seems to be part of the grooming practice in the West, a bit like shaving legs and armpits. And definitely sexual pleasure comes into it also.

The word "fresh" came into the conversation quite a few times and preferred not to have pubic hair stick between teeth was also high as the reason. Interestingly in a short poll of male shaving practice, I was surprised that equality  seems to have taken over, most in the conversation confessed that they shaved their balls and all, for some, their GFs will not do the honour to go down on them  if they are not "clean and smooth" down below!! So it was almost a reciprocal practice and again the word "fresh" also came up a few times particularly in the Summer.

It also seems that girls tend to shave if they are sexually active, as nobody will see them down below otherwise, right. Except in the Summer of course when most will shave for their bikini line and making them "fresher", it is a bit like some girls prefer not to wear undies in the Summer!! (thanks heaven for such practices!!)

isn't there also an issue of the amount of hair? Asian girls tend to be less hairy than their American/European counterparts. Same for men and their beard or chest hair. How often do you see an asian guy with hair coming out of his shirt?

I guess since there is less down there, they don't really think about it that much. However if hair started to make their panties bulge and that bulge is seen when they wear a tight skirt... oh yuck.

Cos a lot of mainland Chinese girls are too poor/cheap to spend on good shaving equipment, brazilian waxes, etc. They shave once using their dad's shaver and ended up getting a lot of uncomfortable stubble, so they decide to not do it again.

My temporary conclusion: it is more "Superstitious" chinese thing.

I am surprised no one mentioned that some people trim or shave is for bikini or thong line.  As I know, most asian women don't bathe in the sun or tan out there.  Asian culture in asia prefer lighter skin than tanned up skin.  Its just one reason I surmise.

It could also be possible that Asian women are traditionally more conservative when it comes to sex, and they do not normally discuss about it openly.  They might be afraid that if they shave, it could be misinterpreted by their partners that they are liberated and prone to experiment with sex - ergo with different partners.  This is akin to preserve their image as a virgin to their husband.

well, in the past maybe. right now in the 21st century, asian women are way more liberal definitely, judging by the koreans, japanese and chinese girls i meet (usually students)
