Arrived in HK a little over a week ago, so a newbie here. I'm wanting to plan a little Xmas indulgence but needing a guiding hand as to what's available and what's allowed /disallowed in the different establishments. Literally hundreds of foot massage places around - do these double as body massage/ happy ending establishments too? Are the masseuses fully clothed? Any touching allowed? What's the deal?

How about "walk ups", how do these differ?

there are hundreds of massage places  so saying all offer extra would be a stretch however im guessing 90% will offer something extra.

walk ups are also everywhere.  these differ because you ring the bell a girl opens door and if you like her you negotiate the cost from $400 to whatever the cost is for what you want

there James lee mansion at TST.  and a good on King long in Mong Kok.  lee garden in causeway bay to name a few

there's one in Sheung wan hing long. but few girls as its closing. look at the you tube link to see how it looks.  this was the cleanest building others do not look this good.

then if you have higher budgets get telegram. there are loads of girls all at different costings and service levels.

Continuing: Read the reports in "Hong Kong - 141 Walk-up" and look at Gal'DB. Easiest option for newbies...

Go to the Gal'DB, click on then the area (e.g. Causway Bay) and then building on bottom left (e.g. Phoenix Apt.). Check that some of the girls are advertising "Type:141 Walk-up" and you'll know that building is easily accessible. There is a "Show Map" with maps and photos so that you can figure out the right entrance.

Only a minority actually advertise, only long-term residents. So you will generally find many other, more temporary, girls in the same building. A couple of large (as in number of girls) buildings, e.g. Fuji - Causeway Bay and  King Hing, Mongkok, usually have no adverts on the DB, but they are easy to find by googling...

Keep in mind that prostitution is legal as long it's 1-4-1 One customer, one girl. So you have no legal risk visiting these buildings. However, many of the workers in 141 (and hotels, etc) are on tourist visas, so they are working illegally. So when you read about raids of buildings, they are looking for illegal workers, not illegal customers. In the *very*,  *very* unlikely event that a building is raided while you are there, the worst that can happen is that you don't get to finish...

In summary, as I said, 141 walkup is the most straightforward approach. Just walk in and see if you find someone you like. And if you *just* want massage, plenty of them will just do that...

to add to @LittleWing detailled information, 2 more sectors of activity:

* Licenced massages (Chinese or Thai), Sauna,...
They are licenced (and the government issued licence is generally posted on a wall with the name of the person in charge) for...masssages,
so if they provide extra services...that is risky business.
BJ or FS would clearly fall under organized prostitution, i.e. jail time for the person in charge if police raid,
For places with a clear and public address, if world of mouth becomes too loud about extra, cops may also come too for ...massages or more .
(so writing a report about explicit extra services in such a place with no RA is not exactly ...nice to them)
If the place is rather stealth (like AD with NO address, so they have to filter), they may be more aggressive.
HJ is generally overlooked.

2 aspects:
The legal status of the girls determines if they are engaging in something illegal (tourist = not legal, domestic helper = not legal, Permanent HKID = OK)
Then there is the potential responsibility of the bar if seen as facilitating / promoting illigal activities.
Generally, girls get % cut on drinks (all or selected depending on bars) generated, kind of "marketing representatives".
From time to time, police walks in to control visas (to prevent overstaying)...and implicitly reminds that "tourists" can also drink of course but if...
