Hey everyone! Just thought of this question after seeing the age and expat threads...
What do you guys do? I assume there's a big mix of men of all ages from all over the world... some only visiting Hong Kong and Asia, some locals and some expats.

So which category do you fit in and also what kind of work do you do? I'm just wondering because as a soon to be graduating young guy, I'm trying to figure out what/where I should go.

I'm currently a college student who will be graduating real soon. Originally from the US and have been in HK for the last 6 months. I will be going back to the US for the summer, then graduate... and then I'll be free and seeing what my options are.

I'll be looking at jobs when I'm back home... but I definitely will miss HK and especially the cheap and fun lifestyle in Asia. The downside is that in the industry that I've studied and am aiming for is much smaller in HK and especially China compared to the US, so if I come back to HK the most probable job I'll be doing is teaching English (as almost EVERY gweilo I've met in HK so far teaches... either as primary income or at least part time for extra cash). Of course teaching isn't exactly lucrative, so I'm also worried that if I did come back that I would be struggling (especially missing out on 141 girls and saunas since I'm making local money rather than earning US Dollars which is spent much better here).

Anyway, sorry for the long post... you all can simply share your job title and ignore the rest of it.

And my advice for anybody thinking of entering this career..Unless you like long hours of boredom, and good pay.  This job is NOT for you.

I could easily do with less pay, and a Job I liked doing.  hell, I'd leave my job for a job in HK/China in a second.  As long as I could make enough to enjoy the hunting aspect of living in asia

Yeah of course, like I said... i don't need to make all that much... because you probably won't be making much compared to where you were originally from if working in HK/China... but if you can get by enough AND be able to hunt, that's all that we'd need.

If you have the right language and basic skills, you might want to try the banking/finance field. It can be quite lucrative as you gain knowledge and experience. (and since HK is a big financial center, your job prospects are reasonably good)

That's not strictly true, Immigration will not approve Work Visas to foreigners for jobs which can be easily filled by local people.  You and the company have to prove that the job requires someone with a high level of skills from outside Hong Kong.  The company also has to prove they have tried to employ someone from inside Hong Kong and failed.

Unless you have a right to live in Hong Kong, chances of finding work in Finance are slim.

People can easily get the paperwork done so that there would not be any problems with immigrations

What do you mean by 'get the paperwork done'?

If you know the right contacts anything is possible.

Although most foreigners coming to Hong Kong to work do not know the right contacts.
