Hopefully I am posting this in the right place.  I was recently in the Hongqiao area of Shanghai for business and shortly after landing and getting to my hotel, I headed for one of my favorite locations for mongering - Hongmei road south of the Yan'an Elevated Road and North of Wuzhong road.  My favorite targets had previously been street level massage shops either right on Hongmei road or just off it on a side street where I could walk by and see some of the girls in short skirts and thereby judge the quality of the girls in the shop.

Much to my disappointment, all of these shops in this area were closed - some just sitting empty while others where being converted to other businesses.  I then made my way to a shop just south of the Yan'an elevated road on Hongzhong road called THANK Massage where I have always received a solid massage and at least a happy ending.  As usual the massage was solid, but my masseuse made it clear that there were no extras to be had.  WTF?!?   

I did regroup and eventually found a few locations where the services met my expectations (reviews coming) but all of them were not on the street level.  I was taken aback by the changes in the past 18 months.

So a few questions to the more knowledgeable members:

1. Are the Shanghai authorities going after street level shops, or is this just a Hongqiao phenomenon?
2. Are more shops not providing extras?
3. Any recommendations in this area?  I eventually found what I was looking for (solid massage with HJ/BJ) on Shuicheng South Road near Ronghua W Road, across the street and slightly north of Starbucks,  but I am always looking for new locations.

There's been a crackdown in the minhang area on anything dirty since September 2016, but the good news is they are going to come back slowly starting march. If you like these kind of massage shops, ur best ones are all at hongkou area. If you guys want to know anything about Shanghai just msg me.

Still in Shanghai, any chance you could recommend certain street intersections or numbers?

If you are in the Hongqiao area, take a look at the map in my original post and find the Starbucks in the upper right hand corner.  This is on Shuicheng Road S.  If you are on the other side of the street and head North about 1/3 of a block you will see the open square shown in the second photo below.  There are two massage locations that I tried (and had success with) here.  A girl or two will escort you upstairs at Wen Hui.  Walk in and take the elevator to the 2nd floor for Jian.

I will try to get more detailed reviews done soon.

If you are not in the Hongqiao area, I suggest searching the Mainland China forum for Shanghai.  There is bound to be some good places near where ever you are.

Hi - I actually work in Hongkou area (N.Sichuan road) and keen to do some exploring and reporting, if you have any street name to point me in the right direction it would be greatly appreciated

Why they closed? Thought receiving a massage and HJ is legal in Shanghai. Mayebe the shops didn't have a business license.
